Overheard in the Souk the grapevine
Telecom companies in Kuwait are resorting to insidious tricks to trap consumers into subscribing to their add-on services through deceptive language. It is not uncommon for your mobile provider to send you a pop-up message offering a type of information service for a fee. If this message suddenly infiltrating your screen wasn’t enough of an invasion, the options to dismiss it are filed under ‘ok’ and ‘cancel’ where the benign use of ‘ok’ actually means ‘subscribe’. Would it be too much to expect these service providers to carry out their exchanges in a fair and respectful way? Or is always up to the consumer to be hyper-vigilant?
Rickety, rickety, bumpity! Those are some parts of the major streets in the country these days. Some parts with asphalt or concrete scraped, what an inconvenience for the motorists and what’s worse? These road sections can even be accident prone! With all the ongoing road constructions in the country, authorities must look into these bumpy asphalt-scraped sections of major streets. Yes, roads have been dotted with all the apologetic “road under construction” signs but aside from that, road works should be done faster to ease traffic and make the highways safe for all motorists and pedestrians.
