KUWAIT CITY, Feb 9: The race for the two National Assembly seats intensifies as four more candidates registered for the supplementary elections on Saturday increasing the total number of candidates to 16, including Anwar Al-Tabtabaei – brother of former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei.

Speaking to reporters after filing his candidacy, Anwar stressed: “Reform is a convoy that does not rely on individuals.”

On Feb 4, the Cabinet instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah to prepare for the supplementary elections in view of the cancellation of the membership of Jam’an Al-Harbash and Waleed Al-Tabtabaei who were convicted of storming the Assembly building.

The constituents of the two former MPs are pushing for certain individuals to replace them, such as the brother of former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei.

On the other hand, Al-Harbash said on Twitter that the elections after the storming of the Assembly building ushered in MPs who fought against the millions deposit scandal. “However, since the cancellation of our membership and the start of supplementary elections, there has been an alarming silence over the issue as if it has been resolved,” he asserted.
