Citizen acquitted:
The Misdemeanor Section in the Court of Appeals cancelled the decision to punish a citizen for offending a compatriot columnist on his social media account, leading to his acquittal.
Earlier, the Public Prosecution charged the citizen with posting phrases deemed offensive to the columnist and misusing the means of communication.
The plaintiff said during investigations that the accused quoted part of an article he wrote and commented on it, asking the plaintiff to apologize to God for writing an article with hints of atheism.
Attorney Ali Al-Wawan, lawyer for the accused, argued in court that the decision was incorrect as it was not based on clear evidence and did not describe the punishable action.
