Govt instructs all ministers to submit comprehens­ive report

Report eyed on institutio­ns which still occupy leased buildings

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: The Council of Ministers has instructed all ministers to submit a comprehens­ive report, including a timetable, to do away with the renting of buildings by the government and move to new designated buildings, reports Al-Anba daily.

Informed sources told the daily the move is one of several steps taken by the Council of Ministers to rationaliz­e and regulate government expenditur­es.

The sources added that the council has also called for the report on institutio­ns which still occupy leased buildings and there is no plan to develop or allocate new government buildings.

Review

It confirmed the existence of a plan to review the unutilized assets of some government agencies, such as land, buildings, garages and warehouses for use by other government agencies.

In response to a question about money saved by this step, the sources said: The size of the savings accurately is not known now, but it can be said that it can be

more than KD 900 million annually.

The sources reiterated that the government continues to rationaliz­e spending on official missions and petty cash, and the use of government vehicles and others.

In response to another question about rationaliz­ing spending in terms of reducing the degrees of promotion by select- ing employees to only 10%, the sources replied: This decision is valid for two years.

There is no intention at present to reduce the financial benefits for employees.
