No. 25 Buffalo shakes off poor start, beats Toledo

Georgia Southern rolls in 2nd half, routs Troy 76-51

TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb 16, (AP): Buffalo is still in a bit of a 3-point shooting funk — except for Nick Perkins, who lifted the Bulls to an impressive victory in a Mid-American Conference showdown with Toledo.

Perkins matched his career high with 26 points — hitting four 3-pointers in the second half — to help No 25 Buffalo beat Toledo 88-82 on Friday night. The Bulls went 0 for 9 from beyond the arc in the first half and finished 7 for 21, but the 6-foot-8 Perkins looked confident from long distance, even though he’s not the most prolific perimeter shooter.

The Bulls (22-3, 10-2) fell behind 10-0 and 17-4 in the first half, but Toledo (20-5, 8-4) never came all that close to delivering a knockout blow. Buffalo star C.J. Massinburg picked up three fouls in the first half and finished with only 14 points, but the Bulls calmly worked their way back after their poor start. Georgia Southern 76, Troy 51 In Statesboro, Georgia, Tookie Brown and Isaiah Crawley scored 16 points apiece as Georgia Southern rolled to a 76-51 victory over Troy on Friday night.

Georgia Southern (16-10, 8-5 Sun Belt Conference) has won three of its last four games while Troy (11-14, 4-9) has lost six of its last seven.

KJ Simon had 12 points to lead Troy. Darian Adams and Javan Johnson each added 10 points.

The Eagles opened the second half on a 21-4 run. Brown and Glenn scored on dunks during the stretch.

Wright St 81, N. Kentucky 77 In Dayton, Ohio, Bill Wampler scored a career-high 29 points and Wright State rallied to beat Northern Kentucky 81-77 on Friday night and join the Norse in a first-place tie in the Horizon League.

Drew McDonald scored 23 points with four 3-pointers and nine rebounds for the Norse (20-7, 10-4), who shot 50 percent and made 12 of 27-3-point attempts. Tyler Sharpe, who also made four 3s, and Dantez Walton added 16 points each.

A bucket by Wampler gave Wright State a 77-75 lead with 1:14 remaining. Four free throws extended the lead before Northern Kentucky cut it to four with five seconds left and the Raiders ran out the clock.

Marist 63, Quinnipiac 61 In Hamden, Connecticu­t, Austin Williams had 14 points off the bench to lead Marist to a 63-61 win over Quinnipiac on Friday night.

Brian Parker had 12 points and six assists for Marist (11-14, 6-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Ryan Funk added 10 points.

Matthew Herasme made a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left to give the Red Foxes a 62-58 lead.

Cameron Young had 24 points for the Bobcats (13-11, 8-5). Jacob Rigoni added 13 points. Tyrese Williams had seven rebounds.

Rider 81, Monmouth 72 In Lawrencevi­lle, New Jersey, Frederick Scott had 21 points as Rider beat Monmouth 81-72 on Friday night.

Tyere Marshall had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Rider (13-13, 8-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), which broke its five-game losing streak. Stevie Jordan added 15 points and six assists. Dimencio Vaughn had 11 points for the hosts.

Ray Salnave had 17 points and six rebounds for the Hawks (10-17, 9-5), whose four-game win streak came to end as they fell out of first place, a half-game behind Canisius. He also had seven turnovers but only one assist. Deion Hammond added 11 points. Diago Quinn had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Canisius 72, Fairfield 68 In Buffalo, New York, Scott Hitchon scored a career-high 21 points with five 3-pointers and Canisius held on to beat Fairfield 72-68 on Friday night and take over first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Jalanni White added 16 points for Canisius with Johnson dishing seven assists, his sixth straight game of at least seven. Canisius made 10 of 25 from the arc.

Jesus Cruz scored 18 points to lead the Stags. Jonathan Kasibabu added 16 points and Alvarez 14.

Cornell 70, Brown 66, OT In Ithaca, New York, Jimmy Boeheim had 21 points as Cornell narrowly beat Brown 70-66 in overtime on Friday night.

Josh Warren had 18 points for Cornell (13-10, 5-2 Ivy League). Matt Morgan added 15 points and six rebounds.

Obi Okolie had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (14-9, 2-5). George Mawanda-Kalema added 14 points. Tamenang Choh had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Penn 82, Dartmouth 79, OT In Philadelph­ia, A.J. Brodeur scored six of his career-high 36 points in overtime and grabbed the last rebound to help Pennsylvan­ia beat Dartmouth 82-79 on Friday night.

Dartmouth trailed 80-79 and had possession with 14.9 remaining in the extra period. Chris Knight drove to the basket but his shot rimmed out. Brodeur grabbed the rebound with 0.6 seconds left then added a pair of free throws. Ian Sistare’s half-court shot hit the top of the backboard to end it.

Knight had 25 points for the Big Green (11-12, 2-5). Sistare added 16 points. Brendan Barry had seven assists.

Manhattan 64, Niagara 60 In Nagara, New York, Tykei Greene had 14 points off the bench to carry Manhattan to a 64-60 win over Niagara on Friday night.

Samir Stewart had 14 points for Manhattan (8-17, 6-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Ebube Ebube added 11 points. Tyler Reynolds had seven rebounds for the visiting team.

Dominic Robb had 17 points for the Purple Eagles (11-15, 4-9), who have now lost four consecutiv­e games. James Towns added 11 points.

Davidson 80, Saint Joseph 72 In Davidson, North Carolina, Jon Axel Gudmundsso­n had 21 points as Davidson stretched its home winning streak to seven games, beating Saint Joseph’s 80-72 on Friday night.

Luke Frampton had 18 points and six rebounds for Davidson (19-6, 10-2 Atlantic 10 Conference). KiShawn Pritchett added 18 points. Luka Brajkovic had 12 rebounds for the home team.

Charlie Brown had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks (11-15, 4-9). Chris Clover added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Troy Holston had 10 points.

Harvard 78, Princeton 69 In Princeton, New Jersey, Bryce Aiken had 33 points as Harvard beat Princeton 78-69 on Friday night.

Aiken shot 9 for 11 from the foul line.

Noah Kirkwood had 16 points for Harvard (12-8, 5-2 Ivy League). Justin Bassey added 10 points and seven rebounds. Chris Lewis had three blocks for the road team.

Harvard put up 45 second-half points, a season high for the team.

Richmond Aririguzoh had 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists for the Tigers (12-8, 4-3). Devin Cannady added 15 points and six rebounds. Sebastian Much had 14 points.

Georgia St 90, S. Alabama 81 In Atlanta, Malik Benlevi scored a career-high 26 points as Georgia State defeated South Alabama 90-81 on Friday night. Jeff Thomas added 21 points for the Panthers.

Benlevi hit 5 of 7 3-pointers. He added seven rebounds and five assists. Thomas also had seven rebounds for the Panthers.

Devin Mitchell had 14 points for Georgia State (18-8, 9-4 Sun Belt Conference), which earned its fourth consecutiv­e home victory. Kane Williams added 11 points and six assists.

Yale 70, Columbia 64 In New York, Miye Oni had 20 points as Yale defeated Columbia 70-64 on Friday night.

Alex Copeland had 19 points for Yale (16-4, 6-1 Ivy League), which won its fourth consecutiv­e game. Trey Phills added 15 points and six rebounds.

Quinton Adlesh had 23 points for the Lions (6-15, 1-6), who have now lost five consecutiv­e games. Gabe Stefanini added 14 points.

Iona 62, Saint Peter 46 In New Rochelle, New York, Asante Gist had 17 points as Iona got past St. Peter’s 62-46 on Friday night.

E.J. Crawford had 17 points for Iona (10-15, 8-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Rickey McGill added 13 points and seven assists. Tajuan Agee had 13 rebounds for the home team.
