FIFA, Qatar discuss increase of teams to 48 at World Cup – Infantino

ANKARA, Feb 16, (KUNA): FIFA President Gianni Infantino said Friday the World football governing body’s Executive Football Summit discussed with Qatari officials the increase of teams in the 2022 World Cup in Doha from 32 to 48.
Infantino, at a news conference following the summit, held in istanbul, said he was optimistic but warned it would not be easy to hold a World Cup with 48 teams.
“I am optimistic but is it easy No it is not easy, I have to be honest,” he added.
He meanwhile said the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was applied in around 50 countries, including Turkey.
