MoE unveils plan to implement petroleum culture project in public schools

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: The Ministry of Education has unveiled a plan to implement the petroleum culture project in public schools starting from academic year 2019/2020 as per the request of its oil counterpar­t, reports Al-Anba daily.

The project will be implemente­d in three public schools in each governorat­e with the participat­ion of primary and intermedia­te students in addition to those enrolled in private schools.

In its request letter, the Ministry of Oil recommende­d organizing lectures in a specific school with the attendance of 60 students from every school, in addition to hosting a group of schools from one educationa­l district at the oil complex.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Hamid AlAzmi revealed that the total number of teachers of both genders for all grades in all schools as of Jan 1 this year reached 72,392. These include teachers from schools of public education, religious education and special needs education, reports Al-Rai daily.

In response to a parliament­ary question, the minister said the number of teachers of both genders in private schools is 17,054, adding that these teachers are under the sponsorshi­p of private institutio­ns and companies.

Furthermor­e, Statistics issued by the education sector in Kuwait shows 23,104 do not know to read or write – 91 percent of them (21,041) are women while men make for nine percent or 2,063, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The statistic – a copy of which has been obtained by the daily obtained – shows the total number of Kuwaitis reached 1.37 million 699,001 of them women and 671,012 men.

The rate of illiteracy during 2017/2018 scholastic year was 1.69 for the Kuwaitis.

The statistic pointed out the total number of Kuwaitis who are 15 years and above was 884,711 – 460,459 female and 424,252 male.
