KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: The Court of Cassation upheld the verdict of the Court of Appeals that sentenced a Saudi prince to seven years in prison and fined him KD 10,000 for kidnapping his children from his Kuwaiti ex-wife.

Previously, the Criminal Court acquitted the accused but Attorney Emad Al-Saif filed a lawsuit on behalf of the ex-wife concerning social status issues as he kidnapped the children. The ex-wife disclosed the children were under her custody when the kidnapping occurred.

Citizen acquitted:

The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of fraud and swindling KD 49,000 from an Iraqi national by introducing the latter to a bogus partnership trading project on the condition that he would pay the debt owed by the suspect.

The suspect was accused of tricking the victim to ensure he released the money in his possession with the intention of partnering in a business project after paying the loan that the former owed a local bank. The victim obliged to the proposal and paid the loan.

However, the defense counsel Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz denied allegations against his client, stressing that the documents presented were insufficient to prove the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Court of Cassation sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three-year imprisonment with hard labor for issuing statements deemed offensive to the Amiri authority and hurling insults at security operatives.

According to the case file, the suspect publicly made certain statements deemed malicious and offensive to status of His Highness the Amir. He also raised doubts about the integrity and seriousness of security operatives in carrying out their duties.

Immoral videos:

The Court of Appeals chaired by Counselor Nasser Salem Aal Heid upheld the decision of the Criminal Court and fined a Kuwaiti actress KD 2,000 for broadcasting videos deemed immoral on her Instagram account.

The Public Prosecution charged the actress based on a lawsuit filed by Attorney Abrar Al-Saleh accusing the actress of inciting her followers to commit immoral acts. The prosecuting officer from Cyber Crime Department testified that the actress was moving her body and hands in a strange manner, which is alien to the Kuwaiti society.

MEW workers fined:

The Court of Cassation upheld the verdict issued by a lower court which imposed a fine of KD 2,000 each on 13 Kuwaiti employees of Ministry of Electricity and Water.

The Public Prosecution had charged them with receiving salaries worth KD 75,000 illegally through the use of silicon mold of their fingerprints which they gave to an unidentified individual who used these molds on fingerprint attendance devices to register their attendance at work while they were overseas.

A case of forgery in terms of supplying official devices with false information was filed against them.
