‘Nazaha’ sends govt officials for probe on suspicion of corruption, says report

Crackdown begins on anti-state Twitter mafia

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 3: Assistant SecretaryG­eneral and spokesman of the Corruption Detection and Investigat­ion Sector at Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) Dr Muhammad Buzuber said the government issued a decision to refer dozens of officials in four government agencies to the Public Prosecutio­n for investigat­ion on suspicion of corruption, reports AlSabah daily.

He said in an interview with London-based newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid that these senior officials are assigned in the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Finance, Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n and Kuwait Municipali­ty. He also disclosed that majority of cases are related to financial irregulari­ties and suspicions of corruption in appointmen­ts.

He added there is a long list of government officials suspected of corruption, but Nazaha is still waiting for completion of investigat­ions and gathering of evidence.

“The authority received explicit orders from HH the Prime Minister and the highest leadership in the State to take action against corrupt officials in government bodies, so we will not tolerate anyone engaged in corruption and the list will include many names in the coming period,” he concluded.

Twitter mafia:

As the investigat­ions continue into the activities of the ‘Twitter Mafia’ the activities of this group of people who have been tampering with the national security for years have become crystal clear, reports Al-Rai daily.

The coming days are expected to be full of surprises. In the meantime, for the third time in a row, the Public Prosecutio­n has ordered the renewal of detention of a lawyer whose name surfaced during the ongoing investigat­ion , which has clearly revealed the features of the Twitter mafia, its mechanisms, blackmail plans, the distributi­on of roles, fake news accounts both internal and external operated by a number of people of different nationalit­ies who have left Kuwait for Europe and planning to create strife in Kuwait between Kuwaiti officials, ministers and MPs.

A Kuwaiti who runs an electronic news network was arrested and about 4 to 5 persons were identified in the investigat­ions and are currently being summoned and interrogat­ed.

Al-Rai sources confirmed that those who are currently being investigat­ed are not alone, but that there are others who are expected to be summoned or arrested as soon as they return to the country from their summer vacations.

Beaten for no reason:

Police are looking for an unidentifi­ed elderly person for allegedly kidnapping, beating and issuing death threats against a 19-year-old Kuwaiti, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to the young man he was walking alone at about 4 am in Qairawan and the suspect driving in a vehicle called him by his name, put a knife to his throat and forced him into his vehicle and drove off.

After reaching a dirt road in Mahboula he allegedly forced the youth out of the car beat him until the youth managed to escape among the houses in the area.

The youth says he does not know the man. He has submitted a medical report showing injuries on his body.

Woman harassed:

Police are looking for an unidentifi­ed person for harassing a Kuwaiti woman through SMS in spite of her warning him to stop meddling with her, reports Al-Rai daily.

In her complaint she told police that the suspect always sent her love messages past midnight and lured her to sex, but she warned him several times she was not interested in him and told him to put an end to what he was doing.

When he continued, in spite of warnings, the woman sought the police help and gave the suspect’s telephone number and the print out of messages.
