KUWAIT CITY, Aug 3, (KUNA): The leading role of Kuwait in its humanitarian approach is to provide aid to those in need locally and internationally, always aims to help those in need in all fields. Supporting the nations in need of assistance, especially those suffering from violent conflicts, is just a pillar in Kuwait’s status as a “Humanitarian Center,” thanks to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The local communities are just as important to aid as they play a role in Kuwait’s society.

Locally, Ministry of Social Affairs had said there was a rise in charity funds in this year during the month of Ramadan which accumulated to KD 58 million ($191.4 million) compared to last year’s KD 50 million ($165 million). This was made possible with the participation of 36 different relief societies along with the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) that is based in Kuwait.

As part of it seasonal local charity projects, Kuwait’s Red Crescent Society is helping 525 families registered at the Local Support Administration for Eid Al-Adha by handing out coupons to help provide their Eid feasts.

The aid also included clothing, furniture, electronics, and school tuition, Head of the Administration of the KRCS Mariam Al-Adsani told KUNA. As always, Kuwait was the first to respond to the calling of the campaign “Gaza calls,” said the Head of Palestinian Engineers Society in a press statement as the efforts of Al-Rahma International in Kuwait managed to collect USD one million in charity funds. These funds have provided many daily and medical needs of families in Gaza Strip, as well as helping them rebuild their homes.

In Aden, the Minister of Water and Environment in Yemen praised the humanitarian efforts of Kuwait lead by His Highness the Amir for projects all over Yemen.

The minister was specifically grateful for the installation of a water station funded by Kuwait Relief Society (KRS) with $900,000, to better the water and electricity supply in Aden, Abyan, and surrounding provinces. This Project aims to activate 10 water wells and a power station with a maintenance sector along with a 10-megawatt generator to operate the wells. The previous stage of this project included the operation of eight water wells also in the same province and preparing the main Aden water station, while providing needed equipment and mechanisms. A drilling project for three 300-meter-deep water wells to support the water supply of Aden, also funded by the KRCS costing $300,000 was announced by the governor of Aden Ahmad Rabee.

Kuwait’s contribution in aiding the Yemeni people ensures provision of needs of all those affected by the conflict including funding a project by the KRCS to provide furniture for the student housing units in the Industries Technical Institute with $142,000.

This is the second phase of the student housing units project which cost $75,000.

KRCS had also funded two projects to distribute boats to the fishermen who have been affected by the conflict in Yemen, with 200 boats this week on two different occasions as part of the Kuwait By Your Side Campaign.

The boats valued at $450,000 were handed out to fishermen in Taiz, Hodeida, Al-Khokha, and Al-Mokha ports in Yemen.

The KRCS offered 2,500 food baskets for locals in Al-Dhale province as well as sewing machines for women. This project selected 30 qualified women as part of the Kuwait By Your Side campaign, as this project creates jobs for the citizens especially women.
