Kuwait to receive remains of martyrs today
‘Details cannot be revealed without completing DNA tests’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 7: The remains of a number of Kuwaiti Prisoners of War (POWs) have reached Kuwait via Abdali border in the presence of specialists from Criminal Investigations Department and Red Cross officials, diplomatic sources say.
This is in confirmation of the report published in Al-Seyassah newspaper quoting the National Assembly Speaker of Iraq Mohammad Al-Halbousi on Tuesday, August 6.
The sources explained that details of the POWs cannot be revealed without completing DNA tests and ensuring they match the registered log created with the help of victims’ families.
Iraq’s Minister of Defense Najah Al-Shammari previously stated that a military aircraft has been allocated for transporting the remains directly to Kuwait after completing all the relevant procedures.
Few days ago, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement to reveal that Al-Shammari met the Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and assured his full support to the international organization in working together to help Iraqi people in all aspects.
It is worth mentioning that Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed last Friday that the remains of 32 Kuwaiti POWs have been identified after they were discovered a month ago in a mass grave in Al-Muthanna Governorate in South Iraq.
