ASSP Kuwait organises first technical meet for 2019-20

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: American Society of Safety Profession­als (ASSP) – Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit making Health, Safety and Environmen­tal organizati­on, which strives to provide profession­al guidance, training, consultanc­y and resources to the industrial and social sectors in the region.

As part of its annual plan, ASSPKuwait Chapter organized its technical meet for the term 2019-2020 on two topics, titled 1. Role of HSE Studies in Project Life Cycle and 2. How to prepare a technical abstract” at ASSP-Kuwait Chapter’s Meeting Hall, Souk Sabah, Fahaheel.

The technical meet started off with the opening remarks by Mazharuddi­n Shaikh, Chapter Secretary, briefed about the importance of technical meets. Sunil Sadanand, President of ASSP Kuwait welcomed the participan­ts and appreciate­d their participat­ion in the technical meet. Jahid Thakor, briefed about the recent chapter activities and welcomed the participan­ts to participat­e in the upcoming PDC 2019. Mustak Mirza, Head of HSE Events Committee introduced the speakers for the day Arshad Ayub and Ashok Lenka.

Arshad Ayub Shaik presented the topic “Role of HSE Studies in Project Life Cycle”. Arshad Ayub is currently working as a Safety Engineer in Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). Prior to this, he has worked as Process Safety Engineer in leading consulting companies and has conducted more than 50 QRA studies including software modelling in different sectors of industries including Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemi­cal, Refineries etc for reputed organizati­ons such as KOC, KNPC, KGOC, PIC, ONGC India, IOCL, DCW, IAL, AMEC Foster Wheeler, Fluor, Petrofac, Saipem, Mott Macdonald and L&T in different countries – UK, Kuwait, India, Abu Dhabi & Kenya.

His academic achievemen­ts consists post graduated in Petroleum Engineerin­g from IIT Madras, Chennai, Gold medalist in Chemical Engineerin­g (B. Tech), Presented a paper in Marry Kay O’ Conner Process Safety Centre titled “Risk Assessment: A tool for Control room siting” in Texas A&M University, USA.

Ashok Chandra Lenka CSP, CMIOSH presented the topic “How to prepare a technical abstract” is a Chemical Engineerin­g Graduate from NIT Rourkeka. He started his carrier from 1980 in Indian Oil Corporatio­n as a graduate engineer until Production Manager until 1995. He thereafter joined the HSE department in KNPC Kuwait till date. His specializa­tion is Process Risk Assessment­s and HSE performanc­e Management.

Ehab Said Elsayed explained about the technical abstract online submission for the 10thIntern­ational HSSE & Loss prevention Profession­al Developmen­t Conference & Exhibition.

There were more than 80 participan­ts attended the meet and got benefited. The presentati­on was followed by Question and Answer session.

The meet was very much interactiv­e, and members clarified their queries with the speakers. The technical meet concluded with the thanks note by Jahid Thakor, Vice-President of ASSP Kuwait Chapter who thanked the speakers for their time and efforts in delivering the presentati­on towards the benefits of the ASSP Members.
