MoI team tours fish market to guarantee compliance with law

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 10: The Director-General of the Capital Security Directorat­e Brigadier Abdullah Al-Rujaib accompanie­d by a police force went on an inspection tour in the fish market to ensure the auction was well-organized without any problems, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the price of mullet for one basket was 27 dinars at the Kuwaiti auction and 45 dinars at the expatriate­s’ auction.

Present during the auction was the Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Commerce Abdullah Al-Afasi, Assistant Undersecre­tary for Consumer Protection Eid Al-Rashidi and Deputy Director General of Public Authority for Agricultur­al Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR).

Kuwait Competitio­n Protection Agency said Thursday it was investigat­ing alleged practices harmful to competitio­n in the fish market, which were reported by newspapers and social media. The agency sent a team to monitor alleged illegal practices and to take action accordingl­y, the agency’s Executive Director Dr Abdullah Al-Uwaisi said in

a statement. He asserted the agency was pursuing all measures to address monopoly in order to guarantee fair prices for all consumers.

Al-Uwaisi officially asked the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for documents related to the alleged violations monitored by the Ministry’s inspectors at the fish market.

The agency is a government department tasked with monitoring competitio­n in markets in Kuwait.

At its meeting on Monday, the Economic Affairs Committee of the Council of Ministers discussed the request to consider the disburseme­nt of 6 million dinars in compensati­on to the owners of the acquisitio­ns afflicted

by the railway track in the Wafra agricultur­al area, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The committee briefed those affected on the contents of the memorandum of the Ministry of Finance to consider the payment of compensati­on for the damaged holdings, which reviewed the decisions of the Council of Ministers issued in this regard on Oct 16, 2017 to instruct the Public Authority for Agricultur­al Affairs and Fisheries Resources (PAAAFR) in coordinati­on with the Ministry of Finance and the bodies deemed appropriat­e, to take all necessary measures regarding the removal of barriers to farms in the way of the railway network, and considerat­ion of the possibilit­y of compensati­on to the owners in light of the relevant legal provisions and other provisions.
