Vandersloo­t helps Sky beat Aces 87-84

MINNEAPOLI­S, Aug 10, (AP): Sylvia Fowles had 17 points and 12 rebounds and the Minnesota Lynx beat Connecticu­t Sun 89-57

The Sun had won eight games in a row, their longest streak since 2006.

Danielle Robinson and Stephanie Talbot had 14 points each, Odyssey Sims scored 12 points and Damiris Dantas 11 for the Lynx (12-11). Napheesa Collier added 10 points and eight rebounds and tied her career high with four steals.

Bria Holmes led Connecticu­t (167) with 10 points.

In Las Vegas, Courtney Vandersloo­t had 16 points, including two free throws with 11.1 seconds left, and 13 assists to help Chicago beat Las Vegas.

Vandersloo­t moved into sixth on the WNBA’s career assists list with 1,588, moving past Cappie Pondexter (1,578).

Stefanie Dolson and Diamond DeShields each scored 16 points for Chicago. The Sky (14-9) have won three in a row and seven of eight.

Innings In Los Angeles, Carson Kelly hit a game-tying home run in the ninth and a go-ahead homer in the 11th to lift Arizona to a win in Los Angeles, ending the Dodgers’ five-game winning streak.

Kelly hit a two-run homer off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to tie the score at 2-2 and deny the win for starter Walker Buehler, who threw six shutout innings.

Kelly homered again off Julio Urias (4-3) to start the 11th. Kelly has 16 home runs this season. The Dodgers managed just two hits, both in the second inning, when they scored both of their runs.

Brewers 6, Rangers 5 In Milwaukee, Eric Thames hit a game-winning homer with two outs in the ninth inning as hosts Milwaukee overcame a blown save by Josh Hader and pulled out a victory over Texas.

The Brewers won the 4-hour, 1-minute marathon when Thames connected on a 3-1 cutter by Emmanuel Clase (0-1), who was making his third career appearance, and lifted the ball into the second deck in right field.

Milwaukee won its fourth straight and overcame Hader (2-5) blowing his fourth save, when he allowed an Elvis Andrus homer in the ninth.

Phillies 9, Giants 6 In San Francisco, Bryce Harper’s second home run of the game, a threerun shot in the seventh inning, put visiting Philadelph­ia ahead for good in a victory over San Francisco.

Corey Dickerson added a threerun triple for the Phillies, who blew a three-run lead before erasing a 6-5 deficit with a four-run seventh.

Adam Haseley opened the seventh against Tony Watson (2-1) with a single, and pinch hitter Sean Rodriguez drew a walk. That set the stage for Harper, who crushed a shot an estimated 456 feet, delivering the Phillies an 8-6 lead.

Padres 7, Rockies 1 In San Diego, California, Cal Quantrill threw seven shutout innings as San Diego topped visiting Colorado to record back-to-back victories for the first time since the All-Star break.

Quantrill (5-3) gave up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts while matching the longest outing of his career.

San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to a career-long 13 games. Luis Urias was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and pinch hitter Josh Naylor capped a four-run eighth inning with a three-run homer.

Rays 5, Mariners 3 In Seattle, Tampa Bay scored three runs on just one hit in the ninth inning to break a tie and win.

With the score 2-2 entering the ninth, the Rays’ Eric Sogard led off by lining a single to right field off Anthony Bass (1-4). Kevin Kiermaier walked, and Michael Brosseau put down a sacrifice bunt to move up the runners. Bass then walked Willy Adames intentiona­lly to load the bases with one out.
