KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: The Family Court has assigned a Kuwaiti woman to manage the money and properties of her disabled son who was in the care of Public Authority of Minor Affairs after the death of her exhusband.

The citizen filed the lawsuit via Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz, asking the court to cancel the guardianship of the authority and obligate it to provide a clearance covering the three months of guardianship.

Lawyer Al-Khabbaz also asked the court to assign his client as the guardian of her mentally-challenged son, and enable her to manage and invest his money as she meets the relevant conditions for carrying out the task.

The Criminal Court abstained from issuing its verdict against a juvenile and others accused of mugging a taxi driver at a traffic stop in the late hours of the night. Instead, the court ordered the defendants to maintain good conduct for a year.

According to the case files, two of the defendants boarded the victim’s taxi and requested him to take them to Mansuriya. Upon reaching the traffic light, a purple SUV blocked the path of the taxi, and then one of the defendants seating at the back of the taxi started strangling the driver while the other seated on the passenger side switched off the car.

Another defendant alighted from the SUV, opened the taxi driver’s door and then took KD 120, Internet router and a mobile phone.

Lawyer for the juvenile, Attorney Ali Al-Wawan, argued the investigation procedures were flawed and the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence, adding that all the pieces of evidence presented to the court were not legally qualified.

Hearing set:

The Criminal Court set next Tuesday for final hearing in the case filed against four Egyptians and a lawyer for kidnapping a Kuwaiti lawyer.

One of the four suspects denied the allegations while others confessed to the crime with detailed descriptions of the occurrence and explanation that the lawyer lured them into the action with monetary reward.

The Public Prosecution took possession of the items recovered from the suspects such as phones and other materials used to monitor movement of the victim until they were caught.

Witnesses testify:

The Criminal Court presided over by Justice Mute’eb Al-Ardi listened to the testimonies of three witnesses who appeared in court to testify in the case of “Interior Ministry Hospitality”, which involves 24 employees of the ministry.

The court listened to the testimony given by former senior auditor and head of audit team in the State Audit Bureau who affirmed that she was mandated by the bureau to investigate the Ministry of Interior’s hospitality spending after the parliament found inflated charges in the spending report. The court also ordered to be presented with the invoices claimed to have been forged with the aim of embezzling money from the ministry, and also instructed the defense team to make their requests for the next session, which will be announced later.

Previously, defense lawyers had requested the court to release their clients, including the defendant who is in hospital and has presented a medical report to prove he cannot attend the court session due to medical reasons.

They also asked the court to allow them to see the case file, including the documents provided by the Public Prosecution. All the requests were dismissed, in addition to lifting of travel ban on those who were granted bails.
