Samarpan organizes ‘Cleanliness is Service’ campaign

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Samarpan, Gujarati Cultural Association, under the patronage of Indian Embassy organized “Swachhata hi Seva” (Cleanliness is Service) campaign on Friday, Oct 4, to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary which was on 2nd October. The campaign was introduced as, both to commemorate his birth anniversary and also to bring awareness amongst the people to contribute in maintaining the cleanliness.
The cleanliness campaign was kicked off with opening remarks by Ramneek Singh, from the Embassy of India and distributed Tshirts with message “Swachhata hi Seva” printed on it.
The campaign began with the cleaning of Abu Halifa Park. Eight bagfuls of garbage was collected including plastic and glass bottles, disposable plates and containers, empty cigarette packets and cigarette butts, plastic carry bags and plastic sheets, tissue papers, leftover food stuff and other waste materials. This is in addition to cleaning the nearby streets and jogging tracks successfully conveying a message to the residents of Block 1, Abu Halifa.
Describing this campaign as an attempt to fulfill the dream envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi, Hitesh Patel, President of Samarpan thanked the executive committee members, all the participants and volunteers for their support to make the campaign successful.
He particularly thanked Mrs Amita Desai for her suggestion and initiatives taken to conduct this campaign. Mrs Desai believes that “we should rededicate ourselves to fulfilling the dream of our father of the nation of maintaining cleanliness, and stated it’s a great way to pay tributes to Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi)”.
Patel thanked the Indian Embassy for encouraging the group to organize such campaigns and providing all support to obtain permission from the Kuwaiti authorities.
