Jordan’s King praises Kuwait’s humanitarian services globally
‘Both countries keen to boost ties in all domains’
AMMAN, Oct 21, (KUNA): Jordan’s King Abdullah II underlined on Sunday the importance of Kuwait’s pioneering role in providing humanitarian services on both regional and international levels.
This came when the Jordanian King received Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Hilal Al-Sayer at Al-Husayniya royal palace, Jordan’s royal court said in a statement.
King Abdullah II expressed his appreciation to Kuwait’s role under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in supporting Jordan at different conditions, it noted.
The Jordanian leader stressed the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, and keenness on boosting them in all domains, the statement quoted the King as saying.
Al-Sayer voiced appreciation to Jordan’s key role under the leadership of King Abdullah II in hosting refugees and providing care and services to them, according to the statement.
During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed the KRCS’ activities in Jordan, mainly serving refugees, it said.
They also touched upon the Syrian refugees’ crisis and stressed that the international community should assume its responsibilities towards the countries hosting refugees so as to continue providing relief and humanitarian aid, it pointed out.
Earlier in the day, the society’s delegation led by Al-Sayer opened a clinic to treat the Syrian refugees in Jordan, in cooperation with the Jordan Red Crescent Society.
It signed a USD250,000 grant agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Center to cover the cost of the Syrian refugees. The grant is provided by Kuwait Finance House.
Meanwhile, It is imperative to generate awareness over the measures that need to be taken in order to reduce vulnerability in the face of natural disasters, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) said. He highlighted the dire need to start adopting these measures as soon as possible, on a day the United Nations has observed as a vehicle to promote a global culture of natural disaster reduction.
The KRCS official cited the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which sets seven global targets in a framework approved by the UN in 2015 as part of efforts to alleviate disaster risk and impacts.
Reducing disaster risk should be the focal point of national charities’ agendas, added the official, saying Kuwait’s efforts to come to the aid of countries plagued by natural disasters are nothing short of praiseworthy.
