Minister approves special new salary scale for PAFN

‘Retirement age for doctors is 75 years’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah approved the minutes of the board meeting of Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) concerning the special salary scale for the salaries of the authority’s employees, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press statement, Board Chairman of the authority Essa Hassan Al-Kandari explained that the minutes of the meeting, which was approved by the minister, included recommenda­tion to implement a special salary scale for the salaries of the employees similar to other government­al bodies. The authority intends to address Civil Service Commission (CSC) to take the required procedures for executing the decision as per the applicable regulation­s.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Dr Bassel Al-Sabah disclosed that his ministry will soon start receiving the completed expansion and maintenanc­e works at Amiri Hospital as part of the second stage of the KM2 maintenanc­e contract, affirming the building will be handed over soon, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to the minister, the number of internal medicine doctors at the hospital reached 133 – 113 expatriate­s and 20 citizens. He added the cost of the twoyear maintenanc­e contract is KD 302,000 covering all works except the medical equipment and laboratori­es that cost KD 1,950,000.

He explained the contract includes an optional offer of three years maintenanc­e at a total cost of about KD 3,252,000 which will be activated whenever the ministry deems necessary.

In response to the question of MP Abdulkaree­m Al-Kandari, Al-Sabah stressed all the floors included in the expansion works at the hospital are fully operation except the 11th floor which consists of the Internal Diseases Department for men and women.

Also in response to the query of MP Khalil Abul on the number of expatriate doctors, the minister revealed there are 113 doctors in the hospital including one who turned 65 years old and has vast experience in the field. He pointed out that according to the Doctors Law, the age of retirement for both Kuwaiti and expatriate doctors is 75 years old.
