NBK, Omniya School Challenge collects over 4,600kg of plastic
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and Omniya’s School Challenge announced the collection of 4,600 kilograms of plastic since it started mid of October.
More than 117 public schools registered in NBK and Omniya’s plastic collecting challenge. The competition will conclude in April 2020. NBK will reward the top four winning schools from (kindergarten, primary, middle and secondary schools) of each participating governorate with valuable prizes.
Sanaa Al Ghemlas, Omniya Chief Executive Officer said that the schools have gathered more than 5 tons of plastic in less than one month. This quantity will save more than 47 cubic meters in Kuwait’s landfills.
Al Ghemlas considered this number is an achievement to save the environment knowing that plastic takes hundred years to degrade in landfills.
Yaqoub Al Baqer, Manager at NBK Public Relations, expressed his appreciation for all the efforts made in this competition. We are pleased to see the youth engaged in environment-friendly initiatives and taking part in raising awareness in their society. “We have set high expectations for this competition, and the first results are extremely encouraging”, Al-Baqer added. “NBK in partners with Omniya to create an initiative that encourages recycling in Kuwait. NBK’s cooperation with Omniya is a longlasting partnership that involves effective campaigns and a real contribution in environmental awareness.”
The challenge between the schools aims to protect the environment and reduce waste in line with NBK’s sustainable development strategy, which is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and New Kuwait Vision 2035.
