PACI faces crisis in the issuance of Civil IDs ... materials shortage

‘Salaries delayed, pay KD 10 fine’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 11: Public Authority for Civil Informatio­n (PACI) is currently facing a crisis in the issuance of Civil IDs due to shortage of materials by the company in charge of import, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily quoting reliable sources said the issuance of ID cards now takes 7 days while it was earlier accomplish­ed within 48 hours. They denied rumors, which said the system was hacked, affirming there’s no interrupti­on of service and that the system is working normal aside from delay in the issuance of civil IDs.

Sponsors warned:

Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has warned sponsors on delaying the salaries of their domestic workers, adding a fine of KD10 will be imposed on those who violate the decision, reports Al-Qabas daily.

PAM launched a campaign on various media outlets, including the social media with the aim of raising awareness among domestic workers about their rights, indicating the sponsor has no right to deduct any amount from their salaries. It also called on the sponsors to abide by relevant laws and treat their workers with compassion devoid of humiliatio­n; stressing domestic workers are entitled to a weekly day off in addition to annual vacation. It reiterated that the law forbids sponsors from seizing their workers’ ID cards or passports unless the laborer approves of it.

App for blind people:

A group of Kuwaiti youths have created a new app called “Notebook” for blind people, as it helps convert books into audio material with sound effects, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In a press release, Fahad Al-Fadhel, one of the founders of the app, said the app will help blind people as they face difficulti­es in reading books written in Braille language because such books are usually big, expensive and difficult to carry.

Caught smoking:

During a surprise visit to the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport, the Environmen­tal Police have issued citations to a number of employees and officials who were caught smoking in non-designated areas, reports Al-Rai daily.
