Montana routs Portland State 85-70

MONTGOMERY, Alabama, Jan 14, (AP): Marquell Carter made 5 of 7 3-pointers and scored 19 points to help ArkansasPi­ne Bluff beat Alabama State 61-56.

Dequan Morris added 10 points for the Golden Lions (3-12, 2-1 Southwest Athletic Conference), who held the Hornets to 37% shooting from the field (20 of 54).

Tobi Ewuosho scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Alabama State (2-15, 1-3) and D.J. Heath added 11 points.

Montana 85, Portland St 70 In Missoula, Montana, Kendal Manuel scored 27 points and Montana pulled away from Portland State in the second half to take an 85-70 victory.

The Grizzlies shot 32 of 53 from the floor (60.4%) and knocked down 9 of 20 from long range while outscoring the Vikings 39-28 in the second half.

Sayeed Pridgett had 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Montana (9-8, 5-1 Big Sky). Derrick Carter-Hollinger added 13 points and Mack Anderson chipped in 10.

Miss Valley St 72, Alabama A&M 66

In Normal, Alabama, Caleb Hunter scored 19 points as Mississipp­i Valley State snapped its seven-game losing streak, defeating Alabama A&M 72-66.

Michael Green added 17 points for the Delta Devils (2-14, 1-2 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), while Torico Simmons chipped in 15 and Zachary Barnes 12.

Cameron Tucker had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-10, 2-2). Garrett Hicks added 10 points. Cameron Alford had 10 points.

Florida A&M 65, Coppin St 54

In Tallahasse­e, Florida, M.J. Randolph had 20 points and 15 rebounds as Florida A&M topped Coppin State 65-54.

Evins Desir had 13 points for Florida A&M (4-11, 2-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). D.J. Jones added 10 rebounds. Rod Melton Jr, who led the Rattlers in scoring entering the contest with 13 points per game, was just 1 of 5 from the field.

Koby Thomas had 12 points for the Eagles (4-15, 0-4), whose losing streak reached nine games. Andrew Robinson added 12 points. Dejuan Clayton had 11 points.

S. Carolina St 101, Howard 95, OT

In Washington, Damani Applewhite’s jumper with midway through overtime sparked a closing run that carried South Carolina State to a 101-95 win over Howard.

Applewhite put the Bulldogs in front for good, 90-89. Tashombe Riley knocked down a jumper and, after Wayne Bristol Jr pulled the Bison within a point, Zacchaeus Sellers hit a 3 and Tariq Simmons and Jahmari Etienne each hit a pair from the line to make it 99-91 with :25 left to put the game out of reach.

Applewhite scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Sellers and Etienne each added 14 points and Sellers dished eight assists.

Charles Williams scored 34 points to lead Howard (2-16, 0-4). Zion Cousins added 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Bristol and Kyle Foster each contribute­d 10 points.

Alcorn St 87, Grambling St 69

In Lorman, Miss, Maurice Howard scored 24 points and made eight assists, Deshaw Andrews added 18 points and Alcorn State beat Grambling 87-69.

Troymain added 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Braves (6-9, 2-2 Southwest Athletic Conference), who made 13 of 31 3-pointers. Corey Tillery had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Cameron Christon scored 17 points and had nine rebounds for the Tigers (9-8, 3-1), who saw their three-game win streak end. Devante Jackson scored 14 points and Ivy Smith Jr had 11. NC Central 69, Md-Eastern Shore

64, OT In Princess Anne, Maryland, Jordan Perkins scored four of his 10 points in overtime and North Carolina Central beat Maryland-Eastern Shore 69-64, snapping its 11-game road losing streak.

Jibri Blount scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Eagles (6-11, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who outscored the Hawks 10-5 in OT. Nicolas Fennell added 13 points and Perkins had nine of the Eagles’ 14 assists.

A.J. Cheeseman scored 19 points and had seven rebounds for the Hawks (2-16, 1-2), who trailed 28-25 at halftime. Ahmad Frost added 11 points and his layup tied it at 59 at the end of regulation. Gabriel Gyamfi had eight rebounds. Bethune-Cookman 85, Morgan St 78

In Daytona Beach, Florida, Cletrell Pope scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, Leon Redd scored a go-ahead 3-pointer and Bethune-Cookman finished on a 12-5 run to beat Morgan State 85-78. Pope shot 9 for 11 from the field. Malik Maitland scored 17 points and six assists and his layup tied it at 73 with 2:34 left to play. Redd hit his 3-pointer and Wali Parks added a 3 in the winning run.

Isaiah Bailey added 14 points for Bethune-Cookman (9-9, 3-1 MidEastern Athletic Conference), which earned its fifth consecutiv­e home victory. Pope also made four steals.

Troy Baxter had 22 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (8-11, 2-2). David Syfax Jr added 16 points and Stanley Davis had 12. Boston University 85, Loyola 53 In Baltimore, Javante McCoy registered 13 points as Boston University rolled past Loyola (Md) 85-53.

Walter Whyte and Sukhmail Mathon each added 12 points for Boston University (10-8, 4-1 Patriot League), which won its third straight and seventh of its last eight.

Andrew Kostecka had 13 points for the Greyhounds (9-9, 1-4), whose losing streak stretched to four games. Golden Dike added 11 points and Kenneth Jones added 10. Southern U. 56, Jackson St 50 In Baton Rouge, La, Lamarcus Lee had 18 points and seven rebounds as Southern ended its nine-game losing streak, defeating Jackson State 56-50.

Micah Bradford had 14 points for Southern (4-13, 1-3 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference). Damiree Burns added 11 rebounds. Darius Williams had nine rebounds for the hosts.

Roland Griffin had 18 points for the Tigers (5-12, 2-2). Jayveous McKinnis added 11 points. Jonas James had 10 points.

Tristan Jarrett scored only two points despite heading into the contest as the Tigers’ leading scorer at 20 points per game. He failed to make a shot from beyond the arc (0 of 5).

Cornell 70, Elmira 33 In Ithaca, New York, Cornell held Division III Elmira to 33 points on 24.5% shooting on the way to a 70-33 win. Both marks represente­d season bests for the Big Red.

Riley Voss had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Cornell (310), and Josh Warren added 10 points.

Shawn Backus had 13 points for the Soaring Eagles, who had 22 turnovers and were out-rebounded 40-30.
