Municipali­ty minister rejects MC’s move to ban smoking of ‘shisha’ in cafe joints

Cafe operating like a casino shut in Abu Al-Hassaniya

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Engineer Waleed Al-Jassem has rejected the decision of the Municipal Council to split the licenses of restaurant­s from café joints, and banning shisha in café joints, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Jassem noted the decision taken by the council in Dec 2019 violates bylaws governing smoking in closed and semi-closed public places.

Meanwhile, the minister affirmed during the second meeting of the Supreme Planning Committee held in the presence of Engineer Ahmad Al-Manfouhi and senior officials of Kuwait Municipali­ty that the Municipali­ty attaches all necessary significan­ce to accomplish­ing government’s program in the best and fastest possible means. He urged the executive authority to put down a plan to convert all services of the Municipali­ty to electronic. He emphasized the mandate given to directors of all governorat­es to receive complaints of citizens directly and ensure the follow-up.

He talked about the three-dimensiona­l government work program to consolidat­e integrity, anti corruption and improve government performanc­e with digital transforma­tion of its services. He urged Municipali­ty officials to consider the dimensions as ideologica­l to determine the direction of work, while concentrat­ing on developmen­t projects. He advised executing the programs according to the pivots, plans, stipulated time schedule and direct coordinati­on with relevant authoritie­s to overcome obstacles.

He stressed that electronic solution is the ideal method to improve the work environmen­t, improve activities and reduce bureaucrac­y to the barest minimum level. He explained that such a solution reduces the rate

of errors. He reiterated trust in the executive authority, success of the laid down plan and ability of the authority to overcome the challenges faced in implementi­ng the electronic systems.

Cafe or casino?:

The Kuwait Municipali­ty, in cooperatio­n and coordinati­on with the Criminal Investigat­ions Department put an end to the activities and sealed off one of the cafés in Abu Al-Hassaniya as it was used as a refuge for female runaways and minors and used for immoral acts,

between the ages of 14 and 18, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The café was also a cause of major inconvenie­nce, as the sounds of music and DJs singing could be heard from long distances.

Although several warnings were issued to the owner of the café, believed to be an officer in the Ministry of Defense after the Kuwait Municipali­ty and the CID received numerous reports of abuses, he did not comply.

The case has been referred to the relevant authoritie­s.

Saudi friend shot:

Police are looking for an unidentifi­ed person for shooting and injuring his Saudi friend in the head, reports Al-Rai daily.

After the man was injured his son rushed him to the Jahra Hospital and taken to the operation theater to treat him of the injury.

When the man came to his senses he told the hospital investigat­or that he was sitting with a friend and an argument ensued between them following which the man went into his house and brought an air gun and shot him in the head.
