Israeli illegal ‘policies’ torpedo two-state solution, says Kuwait

Occupation authorities turning blind eye to UN resolution

-

NEW YORK, Jan 25, (KUNA): Kuwait has expressed grave concern over Israel’s illegal policies that threatened complete collapse of two-state solution, with occupation authorities’ systematic assaults and violations of Palestinian people and their rights.

“It is totally unacceptable that the Israeli occupation authorities continue these violations without being held accountable due to Security Council’s inability to hold the occupation authorities responsible for failure to implement its resolutions,” Kuwait’s permanent represetative to UN Mansour Al-Otaibi told a Security Council session on situation in Middle East.

He said occupation authorities were turning a blind eye to UN Security Council’s resolution that aimed at protecting the Palestinian people, their rights, properties and sacred sites from the Israeli ignorance.

“It is unacceptable that it has been 25 years since the Oslo agreement and we fail to act towards a comprehensive and just peace for this cause, which is the core of the Arab-Israeli conflict,” said Al-Otaibi.

The Israeli aggression, he added, jeopardized “any genuine opportunity for peace.”

Al-Otaibi said the Israeli occupation authorities carried out, throughout 2019, arbitrary arrests, destroyed and confiscated Palestinian properties thus displacing tens of Palestinian families.

Israel, he added, was building thousands of settlement units on occupied lands in the West Bank, expanding existing settlements in occupied East Jerusalem and forcing displacement of Palestinian civilians in a blatant breach of UNSC resolution 2334.

The crimes committed by Jewish settlers against unarmed Palestinians, their properties and holy sites are in violation of international humanitarian and human rights laws, as well as 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention, said Al-Otaibi.

The Israeli occupation, he went on, has been imposing a siege on Gaza Strip for more than 12 years and attacking civilian protesters with live ammunition, killing and injuring thousands of them.

Israel, said Al-Otaibi, was also undermining UNRWA, assaulting Islamic and Christian holy sites as well as attempting to change the legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the demographic status of Al-Quds.

The Arabs, he underlined, were committed to peace as a strategic option in line with relevant UNSC resolution and the 2002 Arab peace initiative, which calls for peace with Israel after the latter ends occupation of all Palestinian and Arab territories it seized in 1967 including East Jerusalem to ultimately establish the independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.
