‘French efforts with EU partners still pursuing to reduce tension in region’
Pressure on Iran may not succeed: Masdupuy
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: French Ambassador to Kuwait Marie Masdupuy stated that French efforts with the European partners are still continuing to reduce tension in the region after the recent escalation between the United States and Iran, saying France does not foresee that great pressure on Iran may succeed; “that is why we are working to calm the situation through diplomacy”, reports Al-Rai daily.
Masdupuy indicated during a recent meeting at the French embassy that France and the International Atomic Energy Organization decided in mid-January to activate a mechanism of solution called DRM, a classic model of managing disputes over an agreement reached between the opponents.
The ambassador said France has informed its partners in Kuwait and the region about this mechanism, which constitutes the highest diplomatic strategy, because France does not see that great pressure on Iran may succeed and therefore working to calm the situation through diplomacy, and Iran must adhere to the terms of the nuclear agreement.
She advised that Iran should review its behavior toward the agreement during the past weeks, which is causing tension in the region, and prompting France to make shuttle trips to all parties in an effort to reduce tension, in cooperation with friends in Kuwait. Ambassador Masdupuy also praised the Horeca Cooking Competition, which is held annually in Kuwait.
Head of the competition, Nabila Al-Anjari, said 325 chefs from Kuwait restaurants participated in the competition. She pointed to the participation of Chef Faisal Al-Nashmi for the first time, and that the competition included 21 competitions to prepare a number of dishes.
