Indian Republic Day: The 71st Republic Day of India will be celebrated in the Indian Embassy premises at Daiya Area, Gulf Road, on Sunday, Jan 26. The unfurling of the National Flag will take place at 08:30 hrs, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Also school children from Indian schools in Kuwait will present a few patriotic songs.

All Indian nationals, people of Indian origin and friends of India in Kuwait are cordially invited to attend.

IAK ‘Kulirkalam 2020’:

Idukki Associatio­n Kuwait’s much-awaited picnic program named ‘Kulirkalam 2020’ shall be conducted in Abdaly Dar Al Sama Shalet on Feb 14. The organizers informed that the program has been planned in a unique way since the beginning including the journey towards the picnic spot.

GKPA annual meeting: Kuwait Chapter of the Global Kerala Pravasi Associatio­n (GKPA), a global expatriate group, will hold its 4th Annual Area Public Meeting in February. The organizati­on, which was launched in Kuwait in 2016 with the aim of mobilizing expatriate­s under a non-political, noncommuna­l and non-regional unity, is now a strong presence in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and the UAE, as well as in 14 countries, including the Maldives, Malaysia and Mozambique. The GKPA Kuwait Chapter is planning a wide range of annual events in April, completing the area’s general meetings in February-March 2020. Salmiya, Mahaboola, Mangaf-Fahaheel, Farwaniya, Abbasiya and Hawally area meetings will be held on consecutiv­e Fridays from the second week of February.

Along with subjective Pravasi conference­s, membership card issuance and renewal and NORKA/expatriate pension online registrati­on support will be provided at area meetings.

Indian Embassy SPDC notice:

Attention of all Indian associatio­ns/Indian schools in Kuwait is once again drawn to Scholarshi­p Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) which was introduced by Government of India in the academic year 2006-2007 with the objective to make higher education in India accessible to the children of overseas Indians and promote India as a centre for higher studies.

Under the scheme, 100 PIO/NRI students were awarded scholarshi­p of up to US$ 4,000 per annum for undergradu­ate courses in Engineerin­g, Technology, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agricultur­e, Animal Husbandry and some other courses.

The scheme is open to NRIs/PIOs from over 40 countries (including Kuwait) having substantia­l Indian Diaspora population.

The Scheme was revamped and launched in July 2016. Under the revamped Scheme, number of scholarshi­ps has been enhanced from 100 to 150 with introducti­on of 50 scholarshi­ps for children of Indian workers employed in the Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries. The Scheme is now applicable to four categories of applicants: (i) Persons of Indian Origin (ii) Non-Resident Indians (iii) Children of Indian workers working in ECR countries (including Kuwait).

(iv) Children of Indian workers in ECR countries — studying in India

The institutio­ns that are covered under this Scheme are:

(i) NITs, IIITs, Schools of Planning and Architectu­re

(ii) “A” Grade institutio­ns accredited by National Assessment and Accreditat­ion Council (NAAC) and recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC).

(iii) Other institutio­ns covered under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Income criteria will be applicable to all four categories. Applicants will seek scholarshi­ps after they obtain admission in the approved list of educationa­l institutio­ns.
