KMA annual festival: A ‘Happy Day’ with feast of music

Kuwait Music Academy’s children present rich musical repertoire

-

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 29: Friday, January 24 was a busy day for students and their teachers of the Kuwait Music Academy and the same was for parents, music enthusiasts including families and colleagues.

From the early morning throughout the entire day they made a beeline to the KMA premises to participate in traditional annual Feast of Music, to perform or to listen to and applaud their favorite artistes.

The event was presented as Winter Songs but the program included songs from all Four Seasons, from Vivaldi through all classical music époques, folk, jazzy to pop repertoire.

Six consecutive concerts (or as one-day six-part concert) kicked off at 10:00 am and ran until 8 in the evening. More than hundred musicians played on different instruments singing hundreds of songs — short few bars popular children’s melodies up to sophisticated works of the top concert repertoire.

All young artistes presented their best. Among the participants were children so small that literally could not be seen standing behind the piano — as tiny as a violin bow.

They climbed on the piano chair with great difficulty but later some of them played advanced Sonatinas

or other compositions fluently. There were also adults, even with a PhD in other subjects but decided to study music as a new passion or hobby, such as the talented and passionate Kuwaiti lady performing Chopin’s Nocturne (literally Song of the Night).

Among the audience hundreds of listeners warmly applauded the young musicians, especially performances by siblings, or daughter with mother and, of course students with support from their teachers, like KMA Director Karol Masternak, Inna Agibalova, Khrystyna, Kravchenko, Victor Shramko Tudor Baciumanu and Petag Zakarian all of whom are acknowledged musicians and instructors.

Student Melika Raeisi presented a very interesting own composition, evidently by well-known Iranian composer Jawad Marufi.

The Chinese Tejia Wang presented another Chopin’s Nocturne in G Minor. The Kuwaiti soprano singer

Mme Elaf presented songs from Purcell, Gounod and Rachmaninoff and the Kuwaiti tenor singer sang even the Kuwaiti National Anthem before the curtain fell on the KMA Music Festival.

The awards ceremony was conducted by co-founders of Kuwait Music Academy Mme Fajer AlMazidi and Prof Cezary Owerkowicz.

They presented the program and shared with guests some reflection. Such kind of presentations is an opportunity to highlight the achievements made by mainly children that are often dedicated to their loved ones.

As we remember the first sketch of a flower offered by a child to a mother or father; more or less a simple or sophisticated item is more valuable than any prestigious and costly gift, isn’t it?

Something from my heart, and personally for you… One girl, Victoria Fernandes sang during the morning concert ‘Where Is Love?’ She professed love to music and through it the love to the person who is dear to her.

Another piano piece played during the concert was ‘Happy Day’ (played by Rhea George).

‘Happy Day’ — it is the best title for the Friday event.
