Brodeur scores 20, leads Penn past Harvard in OT

Kent State edges Akron 68-67

PHILADELPH­IA, Feb 1, (AP): A.J. Brodeur had 20 points, eight rebounds and assists as Penn narrowly defeated Harvard 75-72 in overtime.

Ryan Betley had 17 points and seven rebounds for Penn (9-7, 1-2 Ivy League). Jordan Dingle and Devon Goodman each added 15 points.

Chris Lewis had 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Crimson (13-5, 2-1), whose eight-game winning streak ended. Justin Bassey added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Christian Juzang had 12 points and seven rebounds. Harvard entered with the longest active overtime winning streak in Division I with 10.

Harvard’s Noah Kirkwood forced overtime with a fade-away jumper in the lane just before the buzzer. Bassey made a 3-pointer and was fouled with nine seconds left in OT but he missed the free throw. Harvard got the offensive rebound and had a good look at a tying 3-pointer but it rolled out.

Kent State 68, Akron 67 In Kent, Ohio, Danny Pippen had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Kent State narrowly defeated Akron 68-67 in the Wagon Wheel Showdown.

Philip Whittingto­n tipped in the goahead basket with 20 seconds left. After a timeout, Akron dribbed down the clock before Channel Banks missed a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Antonio Williams had 17 points for Kent State (16-6, 6-3 Mid-American Conference). Whittingto­n and Troy Simons each had 11 points. Kent State leads the all-time series 78-75.

Loren Cristian Jackson had 19 points for the Zips (16-6, 6-3). Xeyrius Williams added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Tyler Cheese had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. N. Kentucky 71, Green Bay 62 In Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bryson Langdon had a season-high 22 points as Northern Kentucky defeated Green Bay 71-62. Langdon shot 5 for 7 on 3-pointers. Jalen Tate had 17 points for Northern Kentucky (15-7, 7-3 Horizon League). Dantez Walton added 15 points. Trevon Faulkner had 10 points.

Green Bay scored 28 points in the second half, a season low for the team.

Amari Davis had 14 points for the Phoenix (10-13, 5-5). Trevian Bell added 12 points. JayQuan McCloud had 11 points.

The Norse evened the season series against the Phoenix with the win. Green Bay defeated Northern Kentucky 73-59 on Dec. 30. Northern

Wright St 65, Milwaukee 61 In Milwaukee, Bill Wampler scored 19 points as Horizon League-leader Wright State edged Milwaukee 65-61 for the Raiders’ fourth straight win.

Tanner Holden and Loudon Love added 16 points each for the Raiders. Love also had 13 rebounds before the team’s leading scorer and rebounder was disqualifi­ed for a flagrant-2 foul with just under nine minutes left.

Both teams set season lows for scoring in the first half with Wright State (19-4, 9-1 Horizon League) holding a 26-19 lead.

Te’Jon Lucas had 18 points and six rebounds for the Panthers (10-12, 5-5). Josh Thomas added 11 points. Saint Peter’s 70, Manhattan 53 In Jersey City, NJ, Dallas Watson and Matthew Lee had 10 points each to lift Saint Peter’s to a 70-53 win over Manhattan.

The Peacocks (9-10, 6-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) made 24 of 28 free throws and scored 17 points off 23 Manhattan turnovers.

Elijah Buchanan had 16 points for the Jaspers (8-10, 4-5), whose losing streak stretched to four games. Pauly Paulicap added 11 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Christian Hinckson grabbed 10 rebounds.

Oakland 77, Detroit 64 In Detroit, Rashad Williams had a career-high 37 points with seven 3-pointers as Oakland beat Detroit 7764.

Williams hit 14 of 15 free throws and had the first 30-point game of the season for a Golden Grizzly.

Xavier Hill-Mais had 12 points and nine rebounds for Oakland (8-15, 3-7 Horizon League), which ended its four-game losing streak. Brad Brechting added 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Daniel Oladapo had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Antoine Davis had 26 points and six assists for the Titans (6-17, 4-6). Justin Miller added 15 points. Dwayne Rose Jr had 13 points and six rebounds.

Quinnipiac 90, Canisius 73 In Buffalo, NY, Tyrese Williams had career highs of 26 points and eight 3-pointers as Quinnipiac beat Canisius 90-73.

Brendan McGuire had 15 points and six assists for Quinnipiac (11-8, 6-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Rich Kelly added 15 points and eight assists. Kevin Marfo had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The 90 points were a season best for Quinnipiac, which made 15 of 28 3-point attempts and shot 61% overall.

Brown 74, Cornell 63 In Providence, RI, Zach Hunsaker had 20 points as Brown got past Cornell 74-63.

Tamenang Choh had 14 points for Brown (8-8, 1-2 Ivy League). Jaylan Gainey added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Brandon Anderson, who led the Bears in scoring entering the matchup with 19 points per game, had 7 points on 1-of-16 shooting. by 0.17.

Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria and Travis Ganong placed fourth and fifth, respective­ly. It was the best result of the season for the American, who won this race three years ago.

World Cup downhill leader Beat Feuz, who was on the podium in 17 of the previous 19 downhills, finished sixth.

The Swiss skier still extended his lead in the discipline standings with several rivals missing the race, as Dominik Paris is out for the season with a knee injury and Matthias Mayer skipped the race because of illness.

Feuz currently holds a lead of 136 points over Paris, 213 over Kilde, 214 over Dressen, 216 over Kriechmayr and 220 over Mayer, with four downhills remaining this season.

It was Dressen’s second triumph of the season and fourth overall, and came two years after he won in Kitzbuehel. That was the first German victory in any men’s World Cup downhill in 13 years.

Dressen missed almost the entire 2018-19 season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in Beaver Creek, Colorado, in November 2018, but he returned a year later by winning in Lake Louise, Alberta, in the first downhill of the new season.

Dressen got two more podium results this season, most recently in Wengen, Switzerlan­d, where he finished third two weeks ago.

However, he only placed 26th in Kitzbuehel last Saturday.
