B’deshi govt to investigat­e human traffickin­g allegation against one of its parliament­arians

‘10,000 workers paid KD 20mln to get jobs in Kuwait’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: The Bangladesh government has announced it will ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigat­e the allegation­s made by the Al-Qabas daily that a Bangladesh­i Member of Parliament is accused of human traffickin­g, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The Bangladesh­i newspaper, Dhaka Tribune, reported that the Secretary-General of the ruling party in Bangladesh announced that he will ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigat­e the matter, and reiterated the position taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fight corruption.

The government stated, according to the newspaper, the government will take legal steps against the accused, if the allegation­s about his involvemen­t in human traffickin­g are proven true.

The newspaper quoted the Minister of Transport and Bridges as telling reporters: “Legal measures will be taken if there is any complaint of corruption against the parliament­arian.”

The newspaper reported the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas that a Bangladesh­i Member of Parliament was accused of traffickin­g in human in Kuwait.

The Dhaka Tribune reported that it had contacted the Bangladesh­i embassy in Kuwait and learned through it the name of the suspect. However, the Bangladesh­i ambassador in Kuwait said: “The reports did not mention the name of the deputy ... and ‘they’ refused to give me this name.”

20m paid for jobs: Amidst vigorous government endeavors and repeated societal demands to control the labor market and put an end to human traffickin­g, the concerned authoritie­s have unearthed another company which has allegedly made fast money by bringing into the country 10,000 workers who have

collective­ly paid approximat­ely 20 million dinars to get a job in Kuwait, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to the security sources, human traffickin­g was discovered when the security services received several complaints. The company allegedly brought into the country Bangladesh­i workers and each one paid 2,000 dinars for the government contract and 500 dinars just for the sponsorshi­p.

According to initial investigat­ions the CEO of the company deals with the Bangladesh­i representa­tives and they in turn deal with brokers involved in visa traffickin­g. They share the spoils but the biggest share goes to the owners of the company who are said to have collected huge sums over the past two years.

The sources stated the security authoritie­s continue to investigat­e the case in cooperatio­n with the concerned authoritie­s.

The sources also said a number of company officials have been summoned for interrogat­ion.

Satisfying girlfriend: Police are looking for an unidentifi­ed reckless motorist who is seen in a video clip driving recklessly along the Arabian Gulf Road just to ‘satisfy’ his blonde girlfriend, reports Al-Anba daily.

Police are also looking for another young woman who made the clip and posted it in the social media.
