Muhammad helps No. 25 Ohio State end No. 7 Maryland’s streak

Durham, Jackson-Davis lead Indiana past No. 9 Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb 24, (AP): Luther Muhammad scored 22 points and No. 25 Ohio State beat No. 7 Maryland 79-72, snapping the Terrapins’ nine-game winning streak.

Ohio State (18-9, 8-8 Big Ten) defeated a Top-10 team for the fourth time this season.

Four other Buckeyes scored in double figures, led by Kaleb Wesson with 15 points. Duane Washington Jr. added 13, while Andre Wesson and C.J. Jackson each had 12.

Aaron Wiggins led Maryland (22-5, 12-4) with 20 points and Eric Ayala had 16, but the Terrapins got little help from their big guns. Leading scorer Jalen Smith, who averages 17.1 points per game, was held to eight. Anthony Cowan, who averages 16.9, scored 10 before fouling out.

Indiana 68, NO. 9 Penn St 60 In Bloomingto­n, Indiana, Al Durham scored 14 points and Trayce Jackson-Davis had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Indiana past Penn State.

Devonte Green contribute­d 10 points for the Hoosiers (18-9, 8-8 Big Ten), who started hot but needed to hit their final four free throws to help seal the win.

Fairleigh Dickinson 75, Robert Morris 70 In Teaneck, New Jersey, Jahlil Jenkins had 20 points as Fairleigh Dickinson edged past Robert Morris 75-70.

Elyjah Williams had 17 points and seven rebounds for Fairleigh Dickinson (9-18, 7-9 Northeast Conference). Brandon Powell added 15 points and six rebounds and Xzavier MaloneKey scored 12.

Dante Treacy scored a career-high 23 points for the Colonials (16-14, 12-5) and Josh Williams and Jalen Hawkins 10 points apiece.

Wagner 75, St. Francis (Bkn) 71, OT In New York, Alex Morales opened overtime with a 3-pointer and he and Elijah Ford combined for 43 points as Wagner battled past Saint Francis (Brooklyn) 75-71.

Hawkins led the Terriers (12-16, 6-10) with 22 points and Deniz Celen added 20 points with 12 rebounds and two blocks. Rob Higgins added 12 points. Wagner, with a seven-player lineup, saw everyone score and six putting up seven points or more. The Seahawks shot 46% and outscored Saint Francis 38-28 in the paint.

Bronos 74, New Mexico 61 In Boise, Idaho, RJ Williams poured in 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Justinian Jessup added 15 points and four assists on a history-making day and Boise State defeated New Mexico 74-61.

Williams was 11-for-14 shooting, Derrick Alston added 17 points for the Broncos (19-10, 11-6 Mountain West Conference) with three assists. Boise State had 15 assists on 27 field goals. Vance Jackson scored 19 to lead the Lobos (17-12, 6-10) and Keith McGee added 12.

Mount St Mary’s 65, Merrimack 57 In Emmitsburg, Maryland, Nana Opoku had a career-high 25 points plus 14 rebounds as Mount St Mary’s defeated Merrimack 65-57 in a game which the Warriors’ Juvaris Hayes set an all-divisions record for career steals.

Malik Jefferson had 12 points for Mount St. Mary’s (1118, 7-9 Northeast Conference), which ended its five-game losing streak. Damian Chong Qui added nine points and nine rebounds.

Hayes finished with 19 points and six assists for the Warriors (19-11, 13-4). Ziggy Reid added 11 points and three blocks.

Saint Peter’s 73, Rider 54 In Jersey City, N.J., Doug Edert had a season-high 28 points – 16 in a little more than three minutes in the second half - and St. Peter’s beat Rider 73-54. Edert made 9 of 12 shots, including 7 of 10 on 3-pointers. Dimencio Vaughn had 24 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Broncs (15-12, 9-8 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).

Saint Peter’s led 31-24 before Rider used an 8-3 spurt and got within 34-32 on Frederick Scott’s 3-pointer. After Tyere Marshall’s 3 brought the Broncs within 42-40 with 13:04 left, Saint Peter’s broke it open with an 18-2 run as Edert scored 16 during the outburst. He made three 3s, two jump shots and three free throws in three-and-a-half minutes.
