‘Zakat’ coordinates with MoH to provide monthly aid to families

Volunteers receive beneficiaries in various governorates

-

KUWAIT CITY, April 7: Director General of Zakat House Muhammad AlOtaibi confirmed that the institution allowed volunteer employees to work in order to disburse monthly support to families in its branches in various governorates; indicating the number of beneficiaries reached 2,117 families during the current crisis, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Otaibi said in an interview that the institution receives approximately 300 registered household heads every day with approximately 33,000 families benefiting from its assistance annually.

He affirmed that since the first days of the emergence of the coronavirus crisis, the government started taking measures to curb its spread, particularly when the Council of Ministers issued decision to suspend business. The higher management believes it is their duty to work under such circumstances, so it asked the employees to volunteer for this work. A number of employees responded to this appeal and the administration asked Minister of Justice, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Fahad Al-Afasi to allow volunteer employees to work to disburse the monthly aids.

The chairman of the board of directors appreciated and strongly supported this initiative. Indeed, the volunteer staff received these families in the branches of Zakat House in various governorates, he added.

Branches

He disclosed the branches in Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates are headquartered in the suburb of Fahd Al-Ahmad; while the branches in the Capital and Hawally governorates have their headquarters in Salwa, and the Farwaniya Governorate branch is based in Ishbiliyah.

The volunteers provided monthly assistance to registered families including the widows, divorcees, elderly and the weak who do not have income. This took place on March 16 and 17, and the Jahra Governorate branch continued to provide assistance for four days — from March 16 to 19, he narrated.

He said the institution provided monthly assistance to 2,117 families - 1,000 of these families have bank accounts registered in Zakat House, so the aids were transferred to their bank accounts and 1,117 families were assisted manually.

After the Fazaa campaign for Kuwait, the institution resumed providing assistance to the families registered under it. Zakat House registered approximately 33,000 families that benefit from its assistance annually. On March 31, the institution resumed providing aid to families that receive permanent support every three or four months. They are those with low income or whose income is not fixed and have been affected by this crisis. The institution sent text messages to families, informing them about the date of their visit to receive assistance according to the preventive measures approved by the Ministry of Health. The institution receives approximately 300 heads of families every day, he disclosed.
