Food bank ‘distributes’ 2,000 meals in 2 locked-down areas
‘Need to preserve solidarity of society to fight COVID-19’
KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The Kuwait Food and Relief Bank, based on its national responsibilities, affirms that it is moving forward with raising the flag of relief and charity work, especially during such times of distress and difficulty, reports Al-Anba daily.
It went to the two areas under complete isolation – Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and Mahboula – and distributed approximately 2,000 meals and some basic amenities to those affected by lack of daily work, those in need, and those who are underprivileged, with the aim of meeting their various daily needs.
The Kuwait Food and Relief Bank intends to continue its charity work in light of the State’s efforts to strengthen measures for combating COVID-19 outbreak, in line with social responsibility as well as the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During a tour of Mahboula and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh areas, vehicles of the bank were seen there, and they were distributing meals under security supervision.
Director-General of the Kuwait Food and Relief Bank Salem Al-Hamr affirmed that the bank never hesitated and will never hesitate in providing a helping hand to the government especially Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior, as well as various institutions that are working day and night for the safety of citizens and residents to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Strengthening
He explained that the bank’s efforts come within the framework of strengthening the community partnership for the public good and in line with the national efforts to raise awareness about the spread of COVID and contribute to raising awareness to consolidate the necessary precautionary and preventive measures. The bank has committed its volunteers to work during this critical period in various regions and governorates of Kuwait within the efforts exerted for resisting and combating the coronavirus.
Al-Hamr expressed gratitude for the efforts exerted by male and female volunteers to help State employees and those affected by COVID-19, also appreciating the great efforts being made round the clock by Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior.
He expressed special thanks to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled for the work he is doing towards Kuwait.
Al-Hamr stressed that the bank continues to exert all efforts and capabilities aimed at curbing the spread of the virus and ensuring the safety of citizens and residents on the land of Kuwait.
He insisted on the need to preserve solidarity of the society to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, calling for countering the rumors raised by certain elements with the aim of creating gossip.
Al-Hamr called on citizens and residents to stay home, avoid mixing and gathering, follow instructions of the State institutions, and avoid being complacent and showing disdain to them.
He urged people not to drive behind unjustified concerns and rush to store food, especially since food is available in all cooperative societies and various supply centers.
Al-Hamr stressed the need to help needy families under the current times by ensuring provision of basic needs to them.
He indicated that the Kuwait Food and Relief Bank will continue to follow-up the needy, especially those affected by the coronavirus crisis, adding, “Despite the official leave decision in the country, the activities of the Kuwait Food and Relief Bank will continue, with the implementation of prevention measures and guidelines of Ministry of Health”.
Al-Hamr said, “The current stage requires reassurance, not intimidation or underestimation of trust in the official sources and the data issued by the official State ministry”.
He asked Almighty Allah to protect Kuwait, its people and the rest of the world from all evils.
Al-Hamr urged everyone to take note of the importance of activating awareness and indicative plans to guide citizens and residents and refute all rumors, and instead seek news sent by print, audio and visual media and posted on the websites of Ministry of Health and Ministry of Information.
He expressed thanks and appreciation to the male and female volunteers in the Kuwait Food and Relief Bank for their efforts in protecting citizens and residents from COVID-19.
Al-Hamr concluded his statement by saying, “The current conditions witnessed in the country highlight the great cooperation between citizens and charity bodies. The charity bodies, including Kuwait Food and Relief Bank, have proven their worth in cooperating with government institutions to fight this pandemic. In their hardships, the people of Kuwait as usual have proven their authentic character while carrying out their national duties to combat the spread of COVID-19. They continued to perform their national duties by adhering to the official directions issued by the government”.
