Corona crisis highly affects charitable work: Al-Seif
KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The General Manager of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charitable Society Walid Al-Seif affirmed that charitable work is highly affected by the crisis of corona pandemic, as the focus is now on charitable work inside Kuwait, despite the activities of many charities continue outside Kuwait, reports AlAnba daily.
Al-Seif stated a strong cooperation between the charities and the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Social Welfare, and Interior. He pointed out that the logistical contributions of State institutions had reached 60,000 dinars amid contributions for approximately 1,850 individuals and 370 families, in addition to 1,300 families whose cases are being studied. He commended efforts exerted by the society through its logistical, societal, educational, and media assistance.
He reiterated that charitable work is affected significantly in several aspects, as the focus becomes greater inside Kuwait while charitable societies before the crisis had multiple activities within and outside Kuwait as per the wishes of donors. Since the beginning of the crisis, the focus of the societies has been on work inside Kuwait, even societies that mainly operated abroad have found an urgent need to work in Kuwait.
Talking about the projects the society started implementing abroad before the crisis, he revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with gratitude, opened the door for aid to enable preapproved external projects while stalling new projects. “We are continuing in relief projects and Ramadan Iftar meals abroad”, he noted.
Health
He also said the work of employees and volunteers has intensified during the crisis than ever before, as they continue night and day observing the health precautions while some of them work from their homes to avoid contact.
Al-Seif discussed the most prominent contributions of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Society since the beginning of the crisis, specifically in support of health sector. He said the society’s contributions and assistance vary with the outbreak of the corona crisis. “We provided logistical support to the state institutions amounting to 60,000 dinars in support of the Ministry of Health in the form of thermometers, in addition to hygiene and sterilization materials for student dormitories at Kuwait University, the Religious Institute and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
He said the society also supported and equipped the Seychelles Quarantine affiliated to the Ministry of Health with an amount of 10,250 dinars and supplied the Northern Military Health Quarantine with medical equipment and materials worth 61,000 dinars, in addition to a rapid medical examination center in cars in the Sixth Ring Zone, which is being prepared at a cost of 18,000 dinars. “We also provided two Golf cars for Sabhan Quarantine at an amount of 7,000 dinars”, he said.
With regard to community contributions made to the people affected by the crisis, he said they started distributing food coupons, in addition to financial assistance to needy families and the affected workers. He said a sum of 52,000 Kuwaiti dinars has been allotted for 1,850 individuals and some 370 families. “We also provided 200 meals for affected workers in Farwaniyah area, as well as 1,200 meals for Kabad Quarantine, including another 150 meals for Al-Fayhaa Society workers for three consecutive days with other meals and baskets for families and workers in a number of institutions,” he noted.
He declared the society has doubled the monthly provisions of the registered families, taking into account the current circumstances, and the cases of 1,300 other families that registered through the automated system are being studied. He said no effort will be spared in supporting everyone who deserves assistance, especially in this crisis.
Assessing the efforts of “Fazaa for Kuwait”, he stressed “we see the charitable societies endeavoring in various aspects to establish platforms for communicating and coordinating with various societies, which has led to the success of this experiment”.
A fund supervised by Engineer Jamal Al-Nouri has been established in coordination with the charities to import food commodities from abroad, he noted, adding the goods have begun to arrive and they will be sorted and distributed to needy families.
