Dubai eases restrictio­ns in movements on Al-Ras, Naif

Three Covid deaths in Saudi over 24 hours

DUBAI, April 27, (KUNA): The Dubai government eased restrictio­ns on movement in the densely-populated areas of Al-Ras and Naif, after no COVID-19 cases were recorded there in the past two days.

The restrictio­ns had been put in place on these particular areas, where more than 6,000 people underwent virus testing in under a month, was due to the density of the inhabitant­s and businesses there, state news agency, WAM, reported.

The curfew there has been lifted in the period between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm in line with the rest of the emirate.

During the lockdown, essential supplies had been provided to the areas’ inhabitant­s.

The United Arab Emirates has so far recorded a total of over 10,000 cases of people infected with the virus with over 1,900 recoveries and 76 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said five persons died of the coronaviru­s to make total fatalities at 76, while 536 people tested positive for the virus to reach 10,349.

UAE’s Ministry of health said 91 people recovered to make tally of recoveries at 1,978.

It noted in a statement the five deaths were expatriate­s who suffered from chronic diseases.

Saudi Arabia

Three more people died of the novel coronaviru­s in Saudi Arabia over the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the Kingdom up to 139, announced the Ministry of Health.

A total of 1,223 tested positive for the respirator­y disease in the Kingdom, raising the total count of confirmed infections to 17,522, the ministry’s Spokesman Mohammad Al-Abdulali said in a news briefing.

In addition, the number of recoveries from the highly contagious bug rose by 142 to 2,357, while 115 patients were still receiving medication in intensive care units, he added.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud ordered the relaxation of the nationwide 24hour coronaviru­s-related curfew during the holy month of Ramadan, except for the holy city of Makkah.

The decree allows the resumption of some economic and commercial activities and reopening of wholesale and retail shops, and malls.

Saudi Arabia and China clinched a contract worth 995 million riyals ($265.3 million) for providing diagnostic devices to test nine million people in Saudi Arabia for coronaviru­s.

Under the contract, the Chinese government will provide the Kingdom with 500 specialist­s and technician­s, setting up six laboratori­es, training Saudi medics and conducting daily field tests, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The deal is part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronaviru­s, it added.

It added that a total of 1,223 had tested positive for the respirator­y disease in the Kingdom, raising the total count of confirmed infections to 17,522.

Turkey

Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 99 people died of coronaviru­s to make the total at 2,805, while infections rose to 110,130.

Anadolu news agency quoted Koca as saying 2,357 cases were registered in the past 24 hours, the lowest in 20 days.

He added that 3,558 people recovered to make the total at 29,140, while there were 1,776 still in the intensive care units.

Iraq

Iraq’s Ministry of Health said one person died of coronaviru­s while 57 people were infected with the virus in the past 24 hours to make infectees 1,820.

The ministry said in a statement the death and 29 infections were registered in Baghdad.

It added total deaths was 87 while 1,263 people recovered.

Bahrain

Bahraini Ministry of Health declared recording 44 new infections with the novel coronaviru­s raising the overall figure of such cases to 1,439.

The ministry said in a statement total number of recovered reached 1,186 after 26 patients were pronounced cured and were discharged from quarantine­s.

Bahrain has reported eight deaths from the contagion.

Egypt

Egyptian Ministry of Health said 215 people tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s to raise

infections’ number to 4,534.

Ministry spokesman Dr Khaled Mujahed 62 people recovered from the virus to make total recoveries 1,176.

Mujahed said 10 people have so far died from the virus to make total fatalities 317.

Tunisia

Tunisian Ministry of Health registered 10 new coronaviru­s cases to make total infections 949.

A ministry statement said it carried out 410 tests in the past 24 hours and 10 were positive.

It added total recoveries was 216 while total deaths 38. It said 78 people were in hospital, 20 of them in the intensive care unit.

Morocco

Moroccan Ministry of Health said 168 people tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s in the past 24 hours to increase to cases to 4,065.

Director of the Ministry’s Pandemic Science Department Mohammad Al-Youbi said in a statement two persons died of the virus to make their tally at 161. He added 56 people recovered to 593. The Morocco authoritie­s has been imposing a state of emergency since March 20 and will continue until May 20 in a bid to curb spread of the virus.
