Several advantages: Dr Khorshid

KUWAIT CITY, April 30 (Agencies): The time has come to implement distance learning at the Kuwait University because it is not possible to wait any longer, reports Al-Anba daily.

Dr Imad Khorshid member of the faculty at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University said the study has stalled for two months following the outbreak of the corona virus and pointed out distance learning has several advantages.

Khorshid said that Kuwait University has had a distance learning office since 1989 and has all the capabilities that qualify it to implement distance learning.

He stressing the Council of Ministers has issued a decision to allow the Minister of Education to activate e-learning and distance education without the need to issue legislation, and those who say distance learning will put the life of professors at ‘risk’ of cybercrime are totally untrue.

Dr Khorshid presented proposals how to apply distance education in practical colleges, to put at rest the fears some members of the teaching staff on distance education.

Meanwhile, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization said Wednesday around 1.3 billion students around the world still affected by closure of schools or universities because of the coronavirus.

UNESCO said in a statement reopening of educational institutes would begin gradually in some countries that were hit by the virus.

It added 195 countries announced closure of schools but 128 of them did not announce a timeframe for the reopening.
