Coronaviru­s toll hits 126 in UAE, 184 in Saudi Arabia

Seventy-two infected in Bahrain

ABU DHABI, May 4, (Agencies): The UAE’s Ministry of Health reported seven additional fatalities, taking this Gulf country’s count of confirmed deaths up to 126.

The ministry, in a press statement, also announced 564 more infections with the highly contagious disease, raising its total number of virus cases to 14,163.

A total of 99 patients have recovered from the respirator­y illness, bringing the UAE’s total number of already cured people to 2,763, the ministry added.

Saudi Arabia

Eight patients who had suffered from infection with the novel coronaviru­s passed away, spokespers­on of the Saudi Ministry of Health Dr Mohammad Alabdulali said.

Total number of deaths from COVID-19 reached 184 and infections 27,011 with 1,552 new recorded cases, he said in his daily briefing about the pandemic.

Number of recoveries rose to 4,134 after 369 sick persons overcame sickness with the virus, but 139 cases remained under intensive care.

Bahrain

The novel coronaviru­s sickened 72 more people in Bahrain over the past 24 hours, announced the Ministry of Health.

The fresh cases include 67 expatriate workers and five due to close contacts with previously unveiled infections with the disease, the ministry said in a press statement.

A total 149 patients have recovered from the globally spreading disease, bringing the Kingdom’s total number of recoveries to 1,717 so far, the ministry added.

Out of the total count, 1,630 patients are in stable condition while only one patient is in intensive care, it noted.

The death toll of the deadly bug in Bahrain still stands at eight fatalities.

Qatar

Qatar reported 679 new infections with the novel coronaviru­s and 130 additional recoveries.

This brings the total number of cases of the globally spreading virus to 15,551, which are mostly expat workers infected with the bug due to close contacts with previously unveiled patients, the Qatari Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The confirmed cases were put under quarantine in different medical facilities, the ministry said, adding that the count of recoveries has risen by 130 to 1,664.

Iraq

Iraqi Ministry of Health announced recording two deaths and 77 infection cases from the novel coronaviru­s, thus the whole figure of the contaminat­ed climbed to 2,296.

The ministry said Baghdad has 55 cases and the rest in Basra, Kirkuk, Muthanna and Anbar.

The two deaths took place in Baghdad taking total to 97, it added, while there were 17 recovery cases to 1,490.

Turkey

Turkey announced recording 1,670 new coronaviru­s cases, the lowest figure since March 30.

Official Anadolu News Agency quoted Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca as saying total figure of people contaminat­ed with the pathogen rose to 126,045.

Up to 61 patients who suffered from the infection lost their lives, bringing tally of mortalitie­s to 3,397. Meanwhile, 1,424 remained in intensive care wards, including 766 attached with life support apparatuse­s.

Koca added that there were 4,892 new recoveries, thus the overall figure of the recuperate­d reached 63,151.

Egypt

Egyptian ministry of health said Sunday 272 new infection cases and 14 deaths were recorded since Saturday.

The ministry spokespers­on Dr Khaled Mujahed said in a statement total infections reached 6,465 while deaths rose to 249.

He added 40 people were discharged from hospitals and quarantine to raise total recoveries to 1,562.

Jordan

Jordanian Government reported a single coronaviru­s infection in past hours raising the tally to 461, amid resumption of regular work in all sectors.

Minister of Health Saad Jaber said at his daily briefing that the person who tested positive of contractin­g COVID-19 was a truck driver from an Arab country, who was diangnosed with illness from the contagion in a border area.

Number of infected persons who continued to receive medical treatment at hospitals reached 64, he said.

Meanwhile, Minster of Industry and Trade Tariq Hammouri declared reopening all economic sectors in the Kingdom.

Minister of Finance Mohammad AlIssiss said returns of the Jordanian economy dropped by $850 million, predicting a 3.4 percent recession at the local level this year.

KUWAIT CITY, May 4: The Ministry of Health has completed the first phase of the field training program for the emergency response to confront the coronaviru­s “Covid 19”, with the joint support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancemen­t of Sciences (KFAS) and the Academy of Life Sciences, by training 240 doctors and workers to work on the frontlines to deal with the requiremen­ts of field work in the face of the pandemic, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The Deputy Director General of the supporting programs of KFAS Dr. Amani Al-Baddah, in a press statement, said the Ministry of Health agreed to support the Amiri Hospital initiative to provide an emergency response program in the face of the coronaviru­s, in the interest of mental health for frontline doctors and health teams, by preparing hundreds of doctors and health workers to deal with this virus.

For his part, the head of Al-Amiri Training Center, Dr. Raed Hashem indicated the program has been designed in a manner that it responds to the requiremen­ts of field work in terms of psychologi­cal, technical and administra­tive aspects to ensure the efficiency of care provided by the medical teams for patients, saying the first phase was launched in early April, and included training of many medical specialtie­s according to the priorities of the Ministry of Health.

He continued saying the training was conducted according to a specific schedule and clear criteria that guarantee the physical separation of the participan­ts, while taking all precaution­s measures required for such work.

For his part, the CEO of the Academy of Life Sciences, Dr. Mohammed Al-Enezi, affirmed the first phase of the program was successful­ly completed by training 240 doctors, pointing out that the academy provides the equipment, tools, and full technical and logistical support for the program, and praised the initiative of the Amiri Hospital Training Center in designing the program.

He pointed out the second phase will be launched soon in cooperatio­n with a specialize­d educationa­l electronic platform that is keen to support this national initiative within its societal role.
