German, Serbian envoys hail measures taken by Kuwait to combat ‘coronavirus’
‘Everyone needs to co-operate’
KUWAIT CITY, May 4: German Ambassador to Kuwait, Stephen Maobs, has expressed his admiration for the exceptional role played by the Kuwaiti media during the spread of the coronavirus that is sweeping the world, reports Al-Rai daily.
He praised the Kuwaiti government for implementing measures deemed necessary to contain this epidemic, which are consistent with the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
He told the daily what is happening these days around the world urges us all to take cooperate to fight this epidemic, at the same time calling on everyone to be prepared to face the worst.
He pointed out there are long-term ties between the members of the German community and Kuwaitis, and they have great confidence in the procedures taken by the Kuwaiti government.
He explained the embassy updates the information regarding the epidemic according to developments for the German community members via e-mail on a regular basis, and stressed most of the responses of “our citizens are ‘Let’s join hands with Kuwaitis and expatriates to confront the disease.”
He stated the embassy works daily on regular basis, but that the communication with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently electronic, and that the embassy staff do their work from their homes. Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Kuwait, Vladimir Kohut, described the measures taken by the Kuwaiti government in dealing with the coronavirus as effective and decisive, reports Al-Anba daily.
He added, these measures have contributed positively and distinctively to the protection of citizens and expatriates, pointing out there are 650 Serbians in Kuwait who feel safe and secure and there is no intention to evacuate them.
However, he explained 20 have returned to Serbia at their own will.
He also said Serbia has made a great success in fighting and preventing coronavirus thanks to quick government measures and effective decisions, pointing out that the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Serbia reached 8,468 cases, while 2,517 of them have been hospitalized.
He added, 1,260 have recovered, and 168 have died so far. Quoting Serbian officials, he added, it is expected that the restrictions and procedures imposed during May will be relaxed.
