Saudi death toll up to 200
RIYADH, May 6, (Agencies): The Saudi Ministry of Health said nine people died of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 1,595 others tested positive for it in the past 24 hours.
The figures took the death toll to 200 and the overall cases to 30,251, spokesman of the ministry Dr Mohammad Al-Abdelali said in his daily press briefing.
He added that 955 COVID-19 patients have recovered, which took to 5,431 the overall recoveries in the Kingdom.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced that it will lift the additional precautionary measures imposed on Al-Faisaliah and Al-Fadhliya neighborhoods in Al-Ahsa Province, as of Wednesday, May 6.
In statements to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), an official source at the interior ministry said the ministry will continue permitting residents of the two neighborhoods to move freely to fulfill their needs, from nine in the morning until five in the evening, as well to allow them to go to work in permitted activities.
The source noted that these measures have been taken within the efforts made by the Kingdom to preserve public health by preventing the spread of the coronavirus and are subject to continuous evaluation in coordination with the health authorities.
The ministry also called upon everyone to adhere to health precautionary measures to achieve the public interest.
Bahrain
Bahraini Ministry of Health said that 146 persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 18 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours.
The newly identified cases include 127 expatriate workers and 18 community transmission cases and one imported, the ministry said in a press release.
Eighteen coronavirus patients have recovered, bringing the overall recoveries to 1,762, the statement added.
Oman
Oman’s Ministry of Health said one person died of the novel coronavirus to increase fatalities to 13.
It said in a statement, cited by Omani News Agency, the deceased as a 67-year-old Omani citizen. The ministry said 98 people tested positive for the virus to take total cases to 2,735, while 858 recovered.
Tunisia
Tunisian Ministry of Health said four people tested positive of the coronavirus and the Minister Abdullatif Makki warned the government would reimpose full health quarantine if the virus started spreading at a quick pace.
The ministry said in a statement it carried out 312 laboratory tests in the past 24 hours and four cases were positive to increase infections to 1,022.
It said 482 people recovered and 43 died of the virus.
Makki, at a news conference, said reimposition of the full health quarantine aimed at reviving the economy and containing the pandemic.
Lebanon
The Lebanese cabinet decided to extend until May 24 the state of public mobilization against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The government will pursue its efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic, the cabinet said in a press release read by Minister of Information Manal Abdul-Samad.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health said one person contracted coronavirus, bringing the overall infections to 741, with the death toll remaining unchanged at 25.
