KUWAIT CITY, May 10: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is concerned about coronavirus developments and the urgent need to adhere to regulations laid down by the health and security authorities, but he did not ignore the need to prepare for the future by adopting different approaches like rationalization, increasing self-reliance and finding alternative sources of income, says National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.

Al-Ghanim made the statement in response to the speech of HH the Amir on the occasion of the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan. He pointed out that although HH the Amir focused on the status quo, he was also keen on conveying a message about the future.

While calling on everybody to strictly comply with the directives of HH the Amir, he urged everyone to carefully think about the Amir’s statement regarding the future. He said HH the Amir sounded the alarm on the future of Kuwait in light of the oil price decline. He added the Amir stressed the need to change spending habits, find alternative sources of income and increase self-reliance. He pointed out this is a manifestation of the Amir’s keenness to be ready for future challenges, along with addressing the current crisis.

“We will overcome the crisis and we will always be strong. Thanks to the Amir’s directives, everyone is cooperating and exerting tremendous efforts to address the crisis,” Al-Ghanim concluded.

Meanwhile, a number of MPs called for providing assistance to owners of livestock pens during the total lockdown as they play a vital role in ensuring ample supply of meat in the local market.

MP Khalid Al-Otaibi disclosed the concerned ministers promised to address the issue and listen to the opinions of livestock pen owners.

MP Dr Homoud Al-Khudair said he conveyed the complaints of livestock pen owners and their request to be exempted from the total lockdown to Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Muhammad Al-Jabri. He confirmed that Al-Jabri vowed to discuss the issue in the next meeting of ministers and he will do his best to help find a solution to this problem as part of efforts to maintain food security.

On the other hand, MPs Abdulkareem Al-Kandari and Al-Humaidi Al-Subai’e recommended conducting coronavirus tests for all workers and members of the boards of directors in cooperative societies in order to protect them and the people they deal with.

Al-Subai’e warned the health system will collapse unless this step is taken, since the employees of cooperative societies interact closely and directly with a huge number of customers.

Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir received y a cable from Al-Ghanim who expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for his address marking last ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The Parliament Speaker, in his cable, noted that His Highness the Amir speech constituted a road map on how to deal with current and future challenges.

He pledged to His Highness the Amir to shoulder national responsibilities in shadow of cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities.

Al-Ghanim noted that the vow to bear these responsibilities would be under guidance of His Highness the Amir as well as His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah.
