Kuwaitis lead new case surge to 846
Decline in ICU cases for the first time in 36 days
KUWAIT CITY, June 24, (Agencies): The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported three deaths and 846 more cases of COVID-19, raising the count to 337 and 41,879 respectively.
The latest infections include 490 Kuwaiti citizens, while the remaining cases are of several other nationalities, the ministry’s Spokesman Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad said in his daily briefing.
Earlier in the day, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced 505 patients virus-free in the past 24 hours, raising to 32,809 the total number of recoveries so far.
Despite the increase in the rate of COVID-19 cases lately such that it has exceeded the rate of recovery for two consecutive days, there has been a positive indicator recently – a decline in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) cases to 165, which is the lowest number recorded since May 18, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to a source from the Ministry of Health, the decline in the number of ICU cases within the last 36 days is a positive indicator, which shows adherence to health instructions to curb the rate of infections that could lead to referral to ICUs.
The ICU capacity for admission of cases and changes therein are what the health systems should consider in evaluating the situation concerning the mechanism of dealing with the pandemic and the need for increasing or reducing the restrictions.
Regarding the recorded numbers, COVID-19 cases among citizens continue to rise to a new record level of 385 on June 23 compared to 357 among expatriates of different nationalities, with the total cases reaching 742.
