MoCI warns against artificial hike in prices of commodities
KUWAIT CITY, June 25: Ahmed Al-Shammari, Deputy Head of Judicial Control in Ministry of Electricity and Water and a member of the joint committee tasked to follow-up bachelors living in private residential areas, has announced the resumption of the committee’s activities, in coordination with various state agencies, to combat the phenomenon of bachelors living in model and private housing, following the suspension of the committee’s activities for a short period due to the conditions in the country, reports Al-Anba daily.
In a press statement, Al-Shammari said, “The committee has resumed its work, starting from Ahmadi Governorate, and will continue to cover all governorates of the country in order to address the phenomenon of bachelors that hampers the comfort of citizens.
Coordination
In coordination with the distribution networks sector of the ministry, and based on a letter from Kuwait Municipality, the committee has launched a campaign against the violating houses in Umm Al-Hayman area and some parts of Khiran area by disconnecting electricity to buildings that illegally house bachelors.
The campaign resulted in cutting off the power supply to 45 violating houses. In some cases, a specific deadline was given, based on humanitarian reasons, and in other cases, some properties were vacated before the arrival of the committee”.
Al-Shammari highlighted the responses sent by 270 landlords to the notices issued by the committee to them regarding the necessity of evicting bachelors from their properties in various governorates, as well as the legal procedures in this regard.
He urged the landlords to respond to the notifications issued by the joint committee, represented by Kuwait Municipality, and not to accommodate young people in model housing in order to avoid disconnection of power supply and other legal procedures that will be initiated by the Ministry of Electricity and Water in terms of payments of dues for all real estate owned by the consumer at the time as a condition for reconnection of power supply to their buildings after they are evacuated.
Prices of items fixed:
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in anticipation of any artificial price hikes has issued ministerial decisions to fix the prices of more than 60 food commodities, reports AlAnba daily quoting a knowledgeable source.
The source explained the prices of meat, chicken, fish and vegetables are fixed by the ministry which is the maximum sale price, however those who want to sell these commodities at lower prices can do so.
The source added inspectors and consumer protection employees continue to monitor the sale prices and to ensure there is no artificial increase. Those found selling goods for prices above those fixed by the authorities will face legal action.
The source pointed out that there are 6 methods for filing complaints, including an application for this purpose, the consumer protection account, emergency centers, Call Center 35 and the Ministry of Commerce account, in addition to the officers’ accounts on Twitter.
