Fifty-five firefighters injured in Al-Sabah Health Zone blaze
Car park exploited for storage
The Public Relations Department of the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) said the car park fire in Al-Sabah Health Area, which broke out at 3:00 pm, Friday, is still burning, 24 hours after it broke out, reports Al-Rai daily.
Officials spokesman of the KFSD social communication department Captain Redha Al-Salman told the daily 7 firefighting teams were fighting the fire, with 220 commissioned and non-commissioned officers and that 55 of them were injured, tired and exhausted which necessitate the transfer of some of them to treatment in hospital while others were treated at the site of the incident.
Al-Salman has appreciated the role of the firefighters who moved quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buildings, especially since health centers and hospitals are spread all over the area.
Al-Salman explained that the rapid spread of the fire was due to exploitation of the car parking lots — consisting of two basements and three floors with combined 35,000 square meters — to store various types of building materials, dyes and others.
However, he said the fire was expected to be brought under control by midnight Saturday.
