Ministers visit health area blaze sight
As the fire-fighting engines continued to contain the ‘burning inferno’ which broke out in the car parking building of the Al-Sabah health area (under construction), the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh, and Minister of Health Dr Basil Al-Sabah visited the site of the fire and patiently listened to an explanation given by the Director-General of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Makrad, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Lt Gen Al-Makrad described in detail measures taken by the fire-fighting teams to contain the blaze. In the meantime the Ministry of Health has formed a committee to investigate and find out what caused the fire and take legal action against the perpetrators.
The Ministry of Health indicated in a statement the building is still in the custody of the contractor responsible for the construction.
The first to visit the site was Lieutenant General Al-Makrad, who supervised the fire–fighting operations, and the Deputy Director-General of the Fire Control Sector, Major-General Jamal Al-Blaheis.
Others present at the site were senior officers from the DGFD, security personnel and personnel from the Emergency Medical Services.
Earlier it was reported the fire broke out at 3 pm Friday and was still raging 24 hours later and was expected to put out Saturday night.
The official in charge of the electronic media at the DGFD Captain Ridha Al-Salman had told the daily 7 fire-fighting teams were fighting the blaze, with approximately 300 commissioned and non-commissioned officers and that 54 of them were injured, tired and exhausted which necessitated the transfer of some of them to treatment in hospital while others were treated at the site of the incident.
