‘Consultation’ winners can stand in poll

-

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Government has no legal authority to prevent winners of the consultation gatherings from officially registering to run in the 2020 general elections, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources.

The same sources explained that no explicit legal text prohibits a gathering for consultations or prevents the winning participants in consultation gatherings from registering as new candidates.

They stated that Law No.35/1962 concerning the election of members of the National Assembly and related amendments has to do with participants in the by-elections, pointing out that the recent incident is nothing more than consultations and there is no legal text that criminalize the organizers or winners of the so-called consultations. They revealed that the incident recorded on camera is nothing more than an act of consultation according to the law, as no material tool was seized that could be taken against them to prove they actually held by-elections, citing ballot boxes or the disclosure of candidates.
