New Indian envoy stresses on depth of ties with Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: The new Indian Ambassador to Kuwait HE Sibi George has stressed on the depth of the bilateral relations between Kuwait and India, saying he is looking forward to develop and continue to build on the already existing strong relations between the two countries which have been strengthen­ed by his predecesso­rs over the years in various fields, including political and trade.

In his first meeting with members of the media fraternity at the Indian Embassy premises, Sibi said, “Kuwait is very important to India in this region, both commercial­ly and politicall­y, so I want in my new mission to move these relations to a higher level of partnershi­p, in addition to that, we have a large community which lives and works happily in Kuwait.”

He expressed his happiness of his posting in Kuwait, and at his ‘return to the region’. He has spent several years working in the field of diplomacy in many Arab countries.

“As you know, there is a large number of the Indian community in Kuwait,” he said, “I am very grateful to the Kuwaiti leadership represente­d by HH the Amir and the Crown Prince, and to the government and the people of Kuwait for welcoming so many Indians.”

He went on to say, “In these difficult times, and specifical­ly in light of the spread of the emerging Covid-19 pandemic, I am happy that we are working together to confront this deadly virus. We at the Indian Embassy are working with everyone to combat the pandemic, and we will not allow this virus to defeat us. Our, struggle is continuing to confront it.”

Regarding his meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khaled Al-Jarallah, Sibi said: “The deputy foreign minister offered me full support for the success of my mission in Kuwait, and I look forward to benefiting from the experience of leaders in Kuwait such as the foreign minister, deputy foreign minister and other leaders, and I need everyone’s support in order to make my mission successful here.”

When asked to elaborate on return of commercial flights between India and Kuwait, Ambassador Sibi said: “We are going through a difficult time now due to the corona crisis, India has difficulti­es, Kuwait is facing difficulti­es, and all countries of the world are facing difficulti­es. Therefore, flights are something that each country decides according to the prevailing conditions and according to the conditions each country deems appropriat­e, so every country looks at the Ministry of Health instructio­ns to take appropriat­e decisions in light of the corona crisis, but I am optimistic that this cloud will disappear, and things will return to what they were before the corona pandemic disrupted life.”
