‘Co-ops can hold general assemblies soon’
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: The Ministry of Education has formally requested its foreign affairs counterpart to facilitate procedures for the entry of Saudi teachers into the country, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a source from the Ministry of Education.
According to the source, acting Ministry of Education Undersecretary Faisal Maqsid sent an official letter to the deputy foreign affairs minister for consular affairs about the need for the services of 429 Saudi teachers; hence, the importance of allowing them to enter Kuwait as soon as possible in coordination with Saudi authorities.
The source disclosed that the list of Saudi teachers, who must return to Kuwait, was attached to the letter. The source said 252 of these teachers are assigned in Ahmadi Educational District, 54 in Jahra Educational District, 56 in the Capital Educational District, 32 in Hawally Educational District, 23 in Mubarak AlKabeer Educational District, 10 in Farwaniya Educational District, and two in the Religious Education Department.
On the other hand, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Saud Al-Harbi has rejected the proposal of the Administrative Sector to postpone the retirement of employees who have been in service for 34 years until next year
Instead, the minister issued a directive to complete all the necessary procedures for the retirement of these employees. He approved the list of 106 Kuwaiti workers who have been in service of 34 years and are eligible for pension upon retirement which will take effect on Dec 1, 2020.
General assemblies: A breakthrough in holding the general assemblies of cooperative societies, which were suspended based on the recommendations of local health authorities in the midst of precautionary measures taken to prevent gatherings in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, is expected to happen soon, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources.
According to the sources, the Ministry of Social Affairs has asked its health counterpart to put in place the final scenarios for holding general assemblies without exposing the shareholders’ lives to the risk of contracting covid-19. Sources disclosed the Ministry of Social Affairs is expecting approval of these scenarios, provided the health measures approved by the Council of Ministers are strictly followed in accordance with the health guideline.
Sources explained the resumption of general assemblies entails disbursement of delayed annual profits to the shareholders and the annual remuneration of the elected and appointed boards of directors as per the conditions and regulations.
All sectors in the Ministry of Social Affairs, especially those in the Ministries Complex, no longer have messengers as the contract between the ministry and the company providing such workers has ended, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources.
Sources disclosed the ministry had earlier informed the Central Agency for Public Tenders that it would not renew the contract as the company has not been paying the salaries of its workers regularly since April. Sources said about 1,600 messengers were assigned in various sectors of the ministry; but the largest percentage were assigned in the Ministries Complex.
Sources added the ministry intends to sign a contract with a new company on a temporary basis for a period of two months, until the new tender is awarded to the winning company.
Sources also unveiled a plan to reduce the number of messengers, particularly in departments that do not need them urgently, as part of measures to rationalize expenditures.
