KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth has thrown his weight behind the candidacy of Hussain Al-Musallam for the post of president of the world water sports governing body, FINA.

Minister Muhammad Al-Jabri said this is due to Al-Musallam’s “experience and merit in the sport.”

Speaking of the candidate, Al-Jabri added he “is considered a Kuwaiti sports icon, with great competence and high experience in global sports world,” adding it makes sense that he is running for this position.

The minister pointed out that AlMusallam, who currently serves as FINA’s First Vice-President, “has long served the sport locally and internationally and is familiar with every aspect of the game, large or small. He can be the best representative of Kuwait at this forum.”

Al-Jabri urged the Kuwait Swimming Federation to mobilize international support for the hopeful.

The candidate has held numerous high-level sports committee positions as well as being a former Kuwait national team swimmer, who competed in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.

His positions include Kuwait Olympic Committee Secretary and DirectorGeneral, member of the Executive Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia and a member of the Olympic Solidarity Commission.
