The novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19) infected 719 people in Kuwait during past 24 hours, official spokesman of the Ministry of Health Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad announced on Tuesday.

Dr Al-Sanad declared, in a statement to KUNA, the contaminat­ion cases have totaled 100,683 since outbreak of the pandemic in the country months ago.

Three of the patients sickened with the contagion died, bringing whole count of the mortalitie­s with the infectious disease to 588, Dr Al-Sanad said.

The infections as recorded in the health zones were as following: 187 in Hawally, 162 in Al-Ahmadi, 151 in Farwaniya, 120 in the capital and 108 in Al-Jahraa. (KUNA)

KUWAIT CITY:

Dozens of employees at Kuwait University were found to be infected with coronaviru­s after the random swab testing last week, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources said the university, in coordinati­on with a team from the Health Ministry, conducted the random swab testing as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. Sources revealed that around six percent of the total number of employees who underwent swab testing are infected with the virus.

Sources added the medical team conducted 882 swab tests in four campuses – Sabah Al-Salem University City, Khaldiya, Shuwaikh and Jabriya; indicating the number of infections reached 52.

KUWAIT CITY:

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the closure of six electronic­s companies and shops, particular­ly those selling laptops, at exorbitant prices thereby, taking advantage of the exceptiona­l circumstan­ces as the new school year will start soon, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press statement, the ministry confirmed that the inspection teams were keen on laying down a plan to monitor several electronic­s sales centers – specifical­ly those selling laptops, Wi-Fi devices and computers – to ensure strict compliance with price regulation­s and to prevent them from increasing the prices of their products without justificat­ion.

KUWAIT CITY:

The Ministry of Commerce has cracked down on computer dealers who stacked up to 150 laptops in a warehouse with the intention to monopolize the sets and raise prices.

The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the warehouse was shut down, following two rounds of inspection­s by the department personnel of stores selling computers, chips and various electronic parts in the district of Hawally.

Having recorded an unjustifie­d and unreasonab­le hike of sets’ prices, the department has referred the case to competent authoritie­s for further legal action. (KUNA)
