KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22, (KUNA): Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Defense Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah has stated that promoting peaceful resolution of disputes has become key pillar of Kuwait’s diplomacy.
This came during the celebration of the International Peace Day organized by the Kuwaiti Woman Institute for Development and Peace under the slogan (Peace is our way), with the participation of the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul Gheit and the Deputy Chairman of the Isa Cultural Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain Dr Khaled AlKhalifa.
“Kuwait has been keen to spread and support cultures of peace, dialogue and moderation, so these principles have become main features of its foreign policy,” said Sheikh Ahmad.
Sheikh Ahmad argued that Kuwait always backed the UN efforts to achieve international peace.
Kuwait is open for all cultures and had joined the Alliance of Civilizations Initiative to promote
dialogue and peaceful co-existence among people of different cultures, he noted.
The Kuwaiti minister pointed out that governments, international organizations, civil society institutions, and individuals, are required to strive with sincere intentions to combat
extremist ideas which incite hatred towards others.
Sheikh Ahmad thanked the Arab League Secretary-General and Dr Khaled for their participation and the Kuwaiti Woman Institute for Development and Peace for organizing this conference.
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Chairman of the Committee for Prisoners of War and Missing Persons at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rabih Al-Adsani said the State of Kuwait recently received from Iraq several remains suspected to be of Kuwaiti prisoners, explaining that the process of handing over the remains is subject to rules and protocols, which the country and all parties concerned with this humanitarian issue follow within the framework of the activities of the tripartite and technical qualitative committee, reports Al-Anba daily.
In a statement, Al-Adsani added those remains Kuwait received from Iraqi side under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross “will be subject to genetic testing to ensure they belong to the Kuwaiti prisoners of war.
He explained that “if the results show a match with the database of Kuwaiti prisoners and the identity of the persons are confirmed, their families shall be notified about all information related to determining the fate of the prisoners and measures taken in this regard, until the end of the identification process.” Notify He pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to notify the families of the prisoners of war on any information or data that is available concerning their families, as they consider it a human and legal right, noting “similar procedures were carried out in the past on the remains Kuwait received from the Iraqi side.”
Al-Adsani stated: “In the event that the database does not match, those remains will be returned to Iraq through the mechanism of the tripartite technical and qualitative committee with the protocols organized in such a case.”
He stressed that the process of handing over the remains is carried out by specialists who are familiar with all aspects of the case, and relevant rules and protocols.
He thanked members of the tripartite and technical committee, International Committee of the Red Cross, and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for their efforts to determine the fate of the prisoners of war, expressing hope to bring this human tragedy to an end.
He reaffirmed that the State of Kuwait will continue its efforts to determine the fate of all Kuwaiti prisoners of war and other nationals.
