KUWAIT CITY: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Kuwait rose by 371 on Saturday to take the total count to 106,458, while a fivefold increase in fatalities pushed its death toll from the outbreak to 620, health ministry data showed.
The country’s Capital governorate logged 92 cases, followed by Ahmadi (89), Hawally (80), Farwaniya (70) and Jahra (40), according to the figures, which distributed the new infections in terms of health zones.
The number of people needing hospital care stands at 7,403, 129 of whom are in intensive care units, said ministry Spokesman
Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad, who revealed that 1,990 swab tests were conducted in the past day out of a total of 755,765 so far.
The ministry had earlier registered 537 new recoveries to up the total to 98,435. (KUNA)

KUWAIT CITY: The Health Ministry conducted 14,065 swab tests for travelers at Kuwait International Airport over the past two months, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources from the health sector.
Sources disclosed the ministry applied health measures on 1,008 flights – 69,329 passengers who arrived in Kuwait in the last two months, specifically from the beginning of August to Sept 28.
Sources confirmed the employees at the Public Health Department are exerting tremendous efforts to organize and supervise health-related procedures in all terminals at the international airport; including quarantine, ‘Shlonik’ application, online registration in the ministry’s database and random swab testing.
Sources underscored the importance of the ministry’s efforts in serving the arriving passengers as the country continues to grapple with the ‘COVID-19’ crisis. Sources said the ministry formed medical teams that were assigned in various buildings at the airport, indicating these teams’ tasks include ensuring all arriving passengers have activated the ‘Shlonik’ application on their mobile phones and passed through the thermal cameras to check their temperature. After these procedures, 10 percent of every plane’s passengers are chosen randomly for ‘PCR’ examination inside the airport clinics, followed by the health registration and monitoring to guarantee completion of all health procedures at the airport. KUWAIT CITY: Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Saud Al-Harbi announced on Saturday that the new scholastic year (2020-2021) would kick off Sunday as previously scheduled.
Teaching will be online for all levels; pre-school, elementary, intermediate and high school, the minister said in a statement, indicating that the department had worked out an integrated scheme for online teaching.
Shifting from conventional to electronic teaching was not easy because it required major preparations, an infrastructure and an integrated scientific substance, he said, affirming that the involved national cadres were quite capable of coping with the novel coronavirus crisis. (KUNA)
