Fourth Kuwaiti relief plane arrives in Sudan
KHARTOUM, Oct 4, (KUNA): The fourth Kuwaiti relief plane arrived at Khartoum International Airport on Sunday, loaded with about 40 tons of aid for those affected by rain and floods in Sudan.
In a statement to KUNA, Kuwaiti Deputy Chief of Mission in Khartoum Abdulkarim Al-Majim said that despite the state of mourning for the late His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the relief plane continued under the directives of the country’s political leadership to reduce the impact of floods.
He added that Kuwait will continue in the same approach, and thanked everyone who participated in the condolence ceremonies.
Al-Majim congratulated the government and the Sudanese people for signing the peace agreement, hoping that it would contribute to enhancing prosperity and stability in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Director General Abdulrahman Al-Aoun mentioned that the plane is carrying food, shelter and aid, to help the impacted people.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society Mohammad Abdulhamid appreciates Kuwait’s nonstop support, indicating that the Kuwaiti air bridge will continue, and they expect the arrival of a plane tomorrow with the same load.
An air bridge of Kuwaiti humanitarian aid arrived in Khartoum in a previous time, loaded with about 100 tons of humanitarian aid, as the Red Crescent established 5 camps to ac
commodate 500 families.
Sudanese authorities declared a three-month state of emergency in all parts of the country, while considering Sudan a natural disaster area after the increasing rains and the overflow of the Nile River to a record level.
According to the Sudan Humanitarian Aid Commission, over 770,000 people have been affected, as the rains and floods killed over 130 people, injured 45 others, collapsed over 100,000 homes, destroyed two million hectares of farmland and killed 5,930 livestock.
